What inspires you to compete?
Since the age of 5 I have been competeing in sports. I think people find out early on whether they are the competitive type or not. I competed heavily in sports throughout high school and played on the college water polo and swim teams in college, swimming for UC Davis. After graduation I took 2 years off and hated life. When I went to my first cycling race I was hooked. I love to compete, it is the ultimate test to prove if you have what it takes. I compete to be the best.
Describe your style...
I am an aggressive rider. Coming from a swimming background which is most like time trialing I am used to pushing myself with little patience. I have had to calm down a lot with cycling and am still working on racing smarter. I get bored in many races due to the slow pace and attack in hopes of getting away and staying away. I spend a lot of time off the front or attacking the field. This can be a good thing for potential sponsors due to the fact I have the opportunity to have my name announced a lot more rather than if I just sat in the pack the whole race.
Music?
I listen to all types of music. It has definetly changed over time from rap in junior high to R&B in high school to country in college and now to alternative. The older I get the more open I become to all different types of music. Since I starting cycling I am often more attracted to pump up music that can get me ready for a race. I am a big Rocky fan and really enjoy most of the songs from the Rocky Soundtrack.
What do you want to be when you grow up?
Ever since I can remember I have wanted to be a professional athlete. I really enjoy the lifestyle of training day and day out along with competeition. While I have never been at the professional level and have not experienced the stress of needing to win, I can not think of anything better than being paid to do what I have been doing all along, competeing.
