How did you get started?
I started triathlon in 8th grade after hearing about a local race. I won my age group and beat a lot of older people and decided to give it a try. I got more serious during college trying out for the Junior National Team at Vineman International but never learned to ride and a good swim/run does not get you a win in triathlon. Since then I have taken up cycling and have been hooked ever since.
List your competitive highlights
All of them? I would have to say my main highlights would be my 3 time All-American swims in college (something I had wanted my whole life), being selected to race for the Cycling Center in Belgium in 2005, and in 2006 coming back home and winning the overall at Merced Triathlon (the race that I started with in 8th grade).
What are you planning for next season?
I will be competing for sure, but what discipline is the factor. This year I started training a bit more behind the scenes for mountain biking and really enjoyed my cyclocross season. For sure I will do cyclocross at the end of 2007. I am considering doing Road and MTB from January-May and then Triathlon in June-September and then finish off the year with cyclocross.
What has been your biggest accomplishment?
Making it through college, earning a BA while swimming on the swim team, holding down a 20 hour work week and managing time for a social life.

Q&A - Personal
What inspires you to compete?
To be able to test my genetic limits. To see where I stand in the athletic world. To see the hurt on others faces as I push on. To win.
Why do you like this sport?
Cycling requires you have everything: Physical strength and endurance, discipline and smarts. On any given day, there a quite a few people who can win, it is just a matter of who wants it most and who can put all the necessities of victory together on that day.
Describe your style...
I love to attack. I don't like sitting in the bunch, it is boreing to me to sit in a pack for 4 hours and then sprint for 200 meters. I want to win big in a solo breakaway.
Music?
I always use music. A lot of tempo type beat songs: some techno (only listen to this when I train) and a lot of inspirational music like Rocky Soundtrack songs.
Why do you compete?
To show myself why I made it hurt so bad when I was training.
