Final stop of Volcom Starfish surf series at River Jetties

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 28 January, 2006 : - - The final stop of the Starfish surf series was at River Jetties on January 21, 2006. This event was a double point rated event and decided who will go to VQS* champs in May for the $75,000 prize purse. Kids showed up for a super cold morning to surf in the glassy and fun 2-4 foot conditions. At the end of the day the Starfish champs were crowned for the 2005/2006 season.

The Girls division was dominated again by Jenny Quam. She came to the beach to win the season and to take home the girls first place trophy and prizes. Sarah Taylor had a good effort along with her fellow finalists Ashley Woody, Sheila Huber, Paige Ortiz, and Anissa Galindu. Jenny left with a sector 9 skatedeck and the Starfish season champ sword.

Little Kolohe Andino and Luke Davis were ripping the Grom division all day and the final wasn`t any different. The Laguna groms Eli Viszolay and Dashel Plesa were blind sided by the new kids and their hopes of the Starfish gold was out of sight. Eli Viszolay was able to collect enough points to win the 05/06 Starfish Grom season champ sword and Zoo York skateboard. The day belonged to Luke Davis who won the event and received the first place trophy mug, Santa Cruz skatedeck, Vestal watch, and bunch of other prizes.

The Starfish Juniors were ready for an all out brawl to win the last stop of the starfish season. Jason Harris was the point leader coming into the last event. In the final, Jason was able get another second in the final but with the second place finish he was crowned the Junior Starfish champ. Logan Strook and Daniel Shea looked as the favorites but it was BRENT REILLY who would leave with the first place trophy and a Volcom backpack full of goods.

With another $500 on the line, the Newport locals came in full force to collect the first place prize money. Adam Popp and Josh Hoyer had the eye on the money. Chris Broman, Marty Weinstein, Michael Bailey, and Mark Adams surfed well all day but couldn`t match the Newport local knowledge. Adam Popp came in second but won the Starfish season and the season champ sword. The $500 and the first place trophy went to Josh Hoyer who won a super tight final.
