Overview

How I got started

I always rode BMX ever since I learnt to ride a bike. I was always dropping off gutters, jumping kerbs and looking for shorter, smoother or faster lines.  I started racing when I was about twelve and continued till age 17. I went to the MTB World Championships in Cairns Australia in 1996 to watch my uncle race and loved the whole event.  I met heroes of mine Like Brian Lopes, Mike King and Pistol Pete Longkarevich and thought the sport of downhill had everything....excitement, speed, bikes and danger which = Adrenaline.  I went to college the next year and saved up for a mountain bike, got one and began racing in 1999. I raced sport class for 3 years on and off before a 2-year break.  In 04 I got back into it and bought an Iron Horse DH bike and loved it. Since then I`ve been hooked on downhill. Only now looking back to that race in `96 do I realise how good Nicholas Vouilloz was.

Goals for the Future

To do as much riding and training as possible
To win Local series
To compete in the State Championships and Qualify for the final. (Top 10)
To compete in 2 National rounds and qualify for the final in each.
To get the most I can out of myself and my equipment.

Bio

What inspires you to compete?

I love the feeling of sitting at the top of the hill and looking down to the bottom and thinking about how my run is going to go. I use my nerves to get me prepared for what is about to come. But the best feeling of all is knowing you have pinned a run and don`t have a breath left in your lungs but it doesn`t matter because you`ve given it everything. It feels amazing when everything you`ve done just worked.  So close to the edge but still in control.

Describe your style...

Smooth but aggressive cornering. Pedal whenever I can (Every one I put in that the other guy doesn`t makes me faster). Love to jump (and show a little style in practice). Try to stay loose on the bike but don`t let the bike get loose. "Hit it hard, be light on the bike and stay smooth"

Do you train? What does your schedule look like?

At least 2 afternoons on a downhill bike at the downhill track, Once a week sprint training on downhill bike.  4 gym sessions per week (alternating muscle groups - chest/back, shoulders/arms, legs/core).  Running at least twice a week, working on pushing myself for the predicted time of the upcoming race.

Music?

Love a bit of everyhing but Heavy Stuff Mostly; Hed PE & System of a Down,Saliva, Disturbed, Metallica, Grinspoon, Killswitch Engage & Tool to name a few.  Lovin Aussie Hip Hop at the moment too. Go Hilltop Hoods, Funkoars, Bliss & Eso, Muph & Plutonic and Pegz.
