Q&A - Self Interview
What got you started racing?
Well I've wanted to try it for a really long time but my friends wouldn't take me since I'm a girl. When we moved to Minnesota my mom's friends sons race and they took me to practice one night with them. I went 2 times around the track and I was hooked. Since then it's been my life.
What was your greatest achievment from 2008?
2008 has been my toughest year. There was a lot of drama back in Minnesota that were just a road block, but I got over them. Not everyone can get along, it's not a perfect world, so I just deal with it now. I live in California now so I'm away from all of that and its definitely made things easier. I started jumping a lot more in 2008 and just mainly worked on my track skills. Probably my greatest achievement was just being out in California training with all my friends. It's helped me a lot
Plans for 09 and Sponsor thanks?
At the beginning of this year I didn't think I was even going to get to touch my bike this year. Luckily, hitting the gym like crazy has been helping and all I have to do is strengthen my shoulder and I'll be alright. I'm still riding for the time being and training every single day. Next year I want to podium at Worlds in South Africa, this year, my main focus is to win NBL Grands. Sponsor-wise I have no idea where to even start. First off definitely needs to be my mom, she's done nothing but support me through everything even when she really shouldn't have. She's let me do everything I need to get better in this sport. Secondly is my absolutely amazing boyfriend. Every time I'm at the track he makes me do something until I get it right. From learning gates better, to jumping, to not pumping like a girl, he's gotten me over it. Even though I've been stubborn and not listened to him he's pushed me and made sure I'm doing everything I can to be the rider he knows I can be. Last, but DEFINITELY not least I would like to thank my company sponsors Spy, Pretty Tough, Damzl Fuel, Six Six One, Fuse Clothing, and Fluid recovery drinks, you guys have been awesome. Oh and my boyfriend's team manager who gets me the team discount :] haha
Do you train? What does your schedule look like?
My boyfriend and I go to the gym everyday and do 1 hr on the spin bikes and then we alternate between arm days, leg days, and plyo days. We hit the track pretty much every day and being out in California I've been getting to ride with a ton of really great riders so it's helping me a ton.
Why do you like this sport?
There's alot of reasons I love BMX. One reason is because it makes me forget about everything going wrong in my life. Another reason is because it pushes me to do my absolute best. I love training hard for a few hours knowing I've gotten just a fraction closer to being at the top of my class.
Do you like to travel? What's your best (clean) road trip story?
I love traveling!!! I'm on the road quite a bit for racing so I guess that works out well. My best road trip story...hmmm. I don't really have just one. I go a lot of places with friends so theres a ton of fun memories :]
What inspires you to compete?
Just the adrenaline rush and the joy of knowing that im hanging out with people that feel the same about BMX as I do, it's awesome. I also love how it pushes me to my limits. It challenges me in all kinds of ways and makes me do my best to get better, and I love that.
My friends are also a major part of the reason I compete. They know my limits, and they push me way beyond them. Each day I get faster, all thanks to them. I love you guys!
What do you want to be when you grow up?
I start college next fall to get my associates degree in psychology. After that I plan to go to San Francisco state for marine biology. I want to be a marine mammal trainer once I graduate
