Redline Finally and Other Various and Sundry Fall Stuff

Well we made it back to St. Peters with one thing in mind, getting Redline settled once and for all.  It has been a torturous wait to get it rescheduled and to get all of our ducks in a row to get there, so many of our friends did not make it back and it was sad in that respect (missed you Shelby).  We left Friday afternoon and had a small disaster on the way, Alex was terribly sick in the car and we ended up having to replace his car seat on the way down.  He's never car sick so we don't know what it was.  We stayed in a hotel in a small town past Blue Springs and when we pulled in he immediately went in and crawled under the covers in our room.  Didn't even complain about not going swimming.  Saturday morning we got on the road and he felt sick again, stopped and got some medicine and got a little Sprite in his system on the way to St. P.  I asked him if he thought he'd be ready to ride his bike and for the first time in his life, he said he just didn't know.  You know Alex, and that means he was pretty darned sick.  We were more than a little worried about him.  But also knowing Alex, hitting the big stage at a big race he puts everything aside.  He's there to do what he loves and that is to race his bike.

He qualified out easily into both mains, we caught up with his friend Nate Davids and his family which was great.  The races went pretty fast and Alex's open main followed the pros.  So when he crossed the finish line first, he was the first one of the day to claim a Gold Cup!  He ended up battling one of our local racers in his 6I class main and came in second.  Alex almost always races two classes at nationals and we only find it makes him a stronger rider.  This day, having had almost nothing to eat in two days and sicker than a dog, we could not have predicted he'd even be able to race.  He collected his #1 plates, jacket, and two big trophies and we sat back to watch some of the other classes finish, including Nate winning 6X.  Nate and his family came over to where we were parked and we had time to visit and the boys got to ride-for fun- like wild men which seems to be what they like to do best.  It was a great day, the weather could not have been nicer and both Alex and Nate are running #1 plates now!!

School has been going great this fall, Alex's first grade teacher has a reading specialization and he has taken off like gangbusters.  His report card could not have been better, he is way ahead of the class in reading and in math and carries a 99% average at spelling.  His report card and his behavior and sportsmanship matter far more to us than any trophy he could ever bring home.  Off to the Grands next!!  Anything that he can achieve at the Grands is icing on the cake - an AMAZING and STUNNING year!  We love you and respect you more every day, Alex~!~!  With love and admiration from your four biggest fans, Mom, Dad, Genny, and Patrick!!
