“7.20.07 - We arrived in Mt. Snow Tuesday night and have seen more rain (photo 1) here in the past few days than in an entire summer in Utah. Everything is soaking wet and nobody wants to go outside except to ride their bikes. Practice has been fun and full of good riding, but we are yet to learn much about the course here. Nobody seems to know what types of tires to run, which lines are fast or even how to set up their suspension. The course is just so wide, so rocky, and so wet that a lot of these choices currently remain unknown. Due to the rain we have been hanging out indoors quite a bit, we even had to resort to turning my bedroom into a temporary bike shop (photo 2). So far we have been toying with a bunch of different tire combinations (photo 3) in attempts to find one that works but it is very difficult. However, despite all of the rain, Mt. Snow has still been a very cool venue. It is very well coordinated, has multiple events such as DH, XC, DS, Super D, and even Trials (photo 4), plus they gave us a parking space directly at the center of the pits to hang out in (photo 5). Now we can properly display the air freshener we bought in Nebraska proudly (photo 6).
The downhill course this year requires some very big balls. It includes mud-pits that could swallow even the largest of hippos, high-speed off-camber corners, steep wooded sections and crazy rock maneuvers. To properly show you what I mean I took a bunch of photos as I walked down the course today. Enjoy. • Right out of the start gate: there’s no turns (photo 7) • Giant mud hole (photo 8) • The first real rock maneuver (photo 9) • The second rock maneuver. It’s hard to tell from this picture but each level of rock shown is actually equipped with a vertical drop of at least 8 feet (photo 10) • Ruts in the woods (photo 11) • Chris Hadley trying to navigate the woods with a rear flat tire (photo 12) • It’s not your typical DH course; these 5 corners cover at least a ½ mile of terrain. Fast. (photo 13) |

WHAT I DID DURING THE 2007 SEASON
As previously mentioned I suffered from a wrist injury – a broken Scaphoid requiring surgery - and was forced to sit out the majority of the ‘07 season. As a racer, this is a very difficult thing to do, yet I eventually found a solution that would allow me to remain in the mountain biking scene while at the same time continue to promote my sponsors: I became a voluntary team manager for my racing team. As team manager my duties included driving the team vehicle to select races (including the East Coast), booking hotels, keeping track of all team expenses, and making sure that each team member was registered for each race and to all practices on time. I also took loads of photos in which I used as visual aids to compliment the blogs that I posted on the Team’s website. Below is an example of a blog that I wrote: this one was posted while on the road in Vermont.

*Note: Due to a serious wrist injury in the early 2007 season I was forced to participate the majority of the season from the sidelines; therefore, most of my results listed will be based upon previous years. (However, observing the races taught me unimaginable information that - now that my wrist is healed - will bring me back stronger than ever in 2008).* See Next Comment For More Info. |
