Brady Smith Seventh in Yankee Classic AMSOIL late model driver Brady Smith invaded the Farley Speedway in Farley, Iowa last weekend for the annual 'Yankee Dirt Track Classic.'
 The two-day spectacular paid $10,000 to win and Smith started out the weekend by posting the fastest lap during qualifying on Friday night. After finishing fifth in his heat race, the Solon Springs, Wis. native rolled off from the outside of the fifth row for the 100-lap main event on Saturday.
Despite the track locking down halfway through the 'Yankee Classic,' Smith was still able to pass nine cars en route to a seventh place effort at the 1/2-mile speed plant.
 Smith heads to Knoxville, Iowa this weekend to defend his late model victory at the Knoxville Late Model Nationals. The three day event is a crown jewel of the late model racing season and offers up a pair of $7,000 to win races on Thursday and Friday night before culminating with a $40,000 purse on Saturday night. Smith has five wins in 2008 in 44 chances, and 11 top five finishes |

Team AMSOIL wins Triple Crown Series Two weeks after competing in New York, Team AMSOIL clinched the OPA Triple Crown Series championshiple after a dominant win in the rough Atlantic Ocean waters off the beaches of Point Pleasant, New Jersey.
Team AMSOIL won the first leg of the three race series in Ocean City, Md. and was the runner-up at the second round in Patchogue, N.Y. The New York race was  originally ordered to Team AMSOIL, but after review it was determined that the Motley Crew boat actually won the race and bringing a tie to the final round in Point Pleasant, N.J. Team AMSOIL drivers Bob Teague and Paul Whittier arrived in New Jersey knowing that they had to win to secure the title. Tropical Storm Hanna ripped through Point Pleasant on the Saturday prior to the race, preventing Team AMSOIL from testing. Knowing that the seas would still be rough and confused on Sunday, the AMSOIL crew changed gear ratios and prepared the boat for battle in the rough seas.
When the green flag dropped, Team AMSOIL and Motley Crew were running very close to each other and getting some spectacular air off the 5 to 8 foot seas. After a lap and a half, Teague found the ideal settings for the Team AMSOIL Skater and began pulling away from the Motley  Crew. Both boats were running as hard as possible in the conditions, knowing that the championship was on the line. Doing everything possible to catch Team AMSOIL, Motley Crew got seriously out of shape and landed on the side which ended up damaging one of their transom assemblies. As the race went on, the Motley Crew boat also developed a water leak in their cooling system as a result of the constant pounding from the rough water. Team AMSOIL continued to stretch the lead and eventually lapped the wounded Motley Crew boat.
To make matters more interesting, what was originally advertised as a five mile course was really seven miles long. Fortunately, Team AMSOIL added an extra 10 gallons of fuel prior to the race for good measure. Paul and Bob knew they could go 110 miles if possible but may not make the minimum required boat weight at the end of the race. When Team AMSOIL returned to the crane to be weighed after the race, the boat weighed in at 8,380 pounds, only 30 pounds more than the required minimum of 8,350 pounds.
"The AMSOIL Offshore Race Team continues to have great results with the new AMSOIL 15w50 Dominator Racing oil and the array of AMSOIL lubricants used in every component and system in the race boat," said Teague.
Up next for Teague and Whittier will be the OSS National Championships in Lake of the Ozarks, Mo. September 26-28.

Scott Douglas Crash Pictures
As we posted earlier this week, AMSOIL Super Team driver Scott Douglas was involved in a devastating crash last weekend at the CORR race in Chula Vista, Calif.
The major damage was done to the upper leg and the knee. Douglas had surgery on Monday to repair the kneecap and the broken bone. No timeline for recovery has been offered.

AMSOIL Featured in Baja
 Video gamers will be getting a lot of exposure to the AMSOIL brand starting next week.
A new game called Baja: Edge of Control is set to be released next Monday across the country. AMSOIL will be receiving exposure through its partnership with the Camburg Racing team. Camburg Racing is a desert race team that competes in the Baja 1000, Baja  500 and other Best in the Desert races.
The game is based on the Baja 1000 and includes more than 95 different tracks that replicate the 1000 as well as the Baja 250 and the Baja 500.

Douglas Crashes, Out at Chula Vista
Team AMSOIL Pro 4 driver Scott Douglas headed to Chula Vista, Calif. with a nine point lead in the championship standings. Hope for a title in 2008 might have come to a violent end on Friday. The El Cajon, Calif. native was taking part in Friday's practice session when he attempted to launch off the finish line tabletop jump. His Ford F-150 grabbed to much air and nosed into the ground, causing the truck to fly an estimated 20 feet into the air and flip numerous times before coming to a stop in a twisted lump of metal and fiberglass. Inside the truck, Douglas was not much better as his left leg took a majority of the impact. After getting hauled out of the truck, Douglas was taken to a local hospital. With a large amount of swelling, doctor's were able to stabilize the leg, but had determined that Douglas had two small fractures in his lower leg and one in his foot. The major damage was done to the upper leg and the knee. Douglas is scheduled for surgery on Monday once the swelling can go down. A timeline for recovery will be determined once the surgery is complete. O  n the track, AMSOIL Pro Lite driver Chad Hord pulled double duty over the weekend by filling in for Douglas in his Pro 4 ride. CORR allowed Hord to drive the #7 Ford F-150 and compete for championship points only after Hord was pitted for one full lap. Despite the one lap handicap, Hord was on the track to accumulate as many championship points as possible in the hope that Douglas can join the chase again at the AMSOIL Dominator Desert Challenge in Primm, Nevada October 25-26. Hord battled with the field and finished 11th on Saturday and 12th on Sunday. While Douglas fell out of the point's lead, he still sits unofficially in third, just 40 points out.  Hord did fair better in his full time job of being a Pro Lite driver. On Saturday, Hord was forced to start dead last after he was unable to qualify because of mechanical problems. Once the green flag fell, however, Hord went on a terror, moving from 23rd all the way up to third by the end of the race. On Sunday, Hord qualified second quick and was credited with a fifth place showing, picking up valuable points as the points leaders dropped out or finished behind him. The Felch, Mich. native moved into fifth in the point's standings. In Pro 2, Mike Oberg has his AMSOIL Chevy pointed in the right direction. Despite a broken shock that put him out of the race on Saturday, Oberg came back strong on Sunday after reconfiguring the rear sway arm. Qualifying 12th, Oberg quickly got on the gas and was sitting sixth just four laps in. Contact from another driver brought out a black flag for Oberg on lap five after a 2" steel bar was knocked loose and was considered a safety issue by CORR. After pitting to get the bar removed, Oberg returned to the track with most of the field in front of him. The Eagle River, Wis. driver quickly worked his way around the field and by the time the competition yellow came out, Oberg was back into the top 12. With one lap remaining, Oberg moved past five more trucks to finish sixth overall. AMSOIL is the Exclusive Official Oil of Championship Off Road Racing. The next CORR event will be the AMSOIL Dominator Desert Challenge in Primm, Nevada on October 25-26. Sunday's race from Chula Vista will air on NBC on October 5. Hurricane Ike Forces ChampBoat Rescheduling
 World class powerboat racers and its organizers suffered a significant blow from Hurricane Ike as it devastated a massive area of South Texas, the home of many powerboat racers, organizers and rescue personnel.
John Schubert, President of SPORT, the organizer of several Sport/Champ2 Texas events, including one scheduled for this weekend in Orange, Texas stated, “Our family came out ok from the storm, but most of South Texas was hit hard and still without power forcing us to cancel the Orange, Texas race. We hope to reschedule it for later this season, but if that doesn’t work out we’ll have to wait until 2009”.
ChampBoat Chief of Rescue, Mike Gibbs suffered significant damage to his home forcing his family to stay with friends.
“Our side of Houston (Eastern) was hit exceptionally hard and there are still tens of thousands without power, so the last thing on our minds right now is boat racing”.
As a result, the ChampBoat Series also was forced to cancel the Tempe Grand Prix scheduled for Sept 27-28 with the loss of crew, rescue and many race teams.
“Our thoughts and prayers go out to all our friends in Texas,” said ChampBoat Director Mike Schriefer. “When disasters hit, it puts the sport of powerboat racing into perspective. It’s a shame however as we have worked so hard the past two years on Tempe, so we’ll really be looking forward to rescheduling the Tempe event for 2009 which will quickly become one of our highest profile events”.
ChampBoat Series now directs its focus on the F1 ChampBoat and Champ2 season finale at the inaugural Grand Prix of Naples on Nov. 1-2. AMSOIL driver Terry Rinker is the current points leader in the F1 ChampBoat class. AMSOIL is also the Official Oil of ChampBoat.

AMSOIL Re-Signs Three-Time World Champion
Superior, Wis. ~ AMSOIL, INC, The First in Synthetics, has signed a three-year contract extension with three-time AMSOIL Eagle River Snowmobile Derby World Champion P.J. Wanderscheid.  AMSOIL has been the title sponsor and exclusive oil provider for Wanderscheid since the 2004-05 season. In 2006, Wanderscheid became only the third person to win three Eagle River World Championships. Big Weekend Ahead For Team AMSOIL
Four of AMSOIL's top teams will be in action this weekend, and three of them have major titles on the line.  Brad and Roger Lovell, the 2008 We-Rock Western Pro Modified champions, will head to Hannibal, Mo. for the WE-Rock Grand Nationals. The winner of the East vs. West event will hold national supremacy in the world of rock crawling. Teams are setting up today and will be racing on Saturday and Sunday.  Brady Smith heads to the famed Eldora Speedway in Rossburg, Ohio for the annual World 100. The World 100 is considered by many as thte "Granddaddy of them all" in dirt late model racing. Qualifying begins Friday night with heat races and the 100-lap, $41,000 to win main event are schedule for Saturday night. Smith finished 15th in his first World 100 in 2007 and heads into this years race fresh off a WDRL win in Spring Valley, Minn.  Bob Teague's continues to find success on the water in his #77 AMSOIL Cat Lite. Teague will be in Point Pleasant, New Jersey this weekend to take part in the OPA Triple Crown race. Teague currently sits in second in the OSS Cat Lite class with two rounds left to run.  And Sudden Impact Monster Truck Racing will bring the AMSOIL Shock Therapy truck to Parsons Stadium in Springdale, Ark. as part of a Lone Star Promotions production. Shows are scheduled for Friday and Saturday night. |
Weimer Second Overall in Finale
The 2008 AMA National Motocross Championships wrapped up for the first time on a Saturday at Delmont, Pennsylvania’s Steel City Raceway, and although weather reports leading up to the race indicated a deluge, no rain reared its ugly head.  AMSOIL Lites rider Jake Weimer had a solid day at Steel City. He worked his way up to sixth in the first moto and found himself in a battle for third in the second moto. Weimer finished second overall for the day.  “The second moto, I had a pretty good start, and there were dudes going down everywhere,” Weimer said. “I was behind [Brett] Mecalfe forever, and I felt like I needed to get around him, but I wasn’t making it happen. I kind of got stuck in his pace, and then [Nico] Izzi got by both of us, and then I finally decided that I needed to make something happen with Brett. We ended up coming together, and he went down, and it wasn’t really intentional, but it was one of those racing situations where I thought I had it, and he thought he had it, and we came together, and unfortunately, he went down.” Weimer finished the season a strong fourth in points with 321 points.  Rookie Blake Wharton had a strong come-from-behind ride in the first moto, finishing just behind Weimer in seventh. Wharton grabbed his second holeshot of his short career to start the second moto, but went down in a slick spot a couple of turns into the race and was forced to come from the back of the pack. “I got the holeshot in the second moto, which was what I needed, but they watered it and it was real slick, and I fell down in the third turn because I washed my front end,” Wharton said. “I kept my bike running and I caught back up to ninth, which was pretty good for my overall. I’m happy.” He was sixth overall on the day and will go into 2009 with a better idea of what it takes to run up front at the pro level, which is really what he was racing for in 2008 in the first place. Dan Reardon was disappointed with his results at the season-finale, but similar to Wharton, he’s happy that he has a healthy season under his belt so that he knows what to expect next year. Reardon went 13-11 for 12th overall and finished out the season 11th in the points standings.  Josh Grant grabbed the holeshot in the opening moto and led the first six laps before losing the lead to eventual winner Ryan Dungey. He ran second until about three laps to go in the race when he experienced a mechanical failure – the first one he’s ever had in four years of racing with the GEICO Powersports/ AMSOIL/Honda team. In moto two, Grant again started at the front and ran second for the first few laps before eventually finishing the race in eighth. Grant finished the season ninth in points despite racing only half the series, and had two podiums – at Colorado and Washougal. The GEICO Powersports/AMSOIL/Honda team will take some well-earned time off before beginning 2009 testing and returning to action for the 10th anniversary of the U.S. Open of Supercross at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, on October 10-11. |
Smith Records Fifth Win at Deer Creek
AMSOIL late model driver Brady Smith racked up his fifth victory of 2008 last Saturday night, (August 30), at the Deer Creek Speedway in Spring Valley, Minn.  Smith sported a fast car all night, as he won his heat race and the dash to earn the pole position for the $5,000 to win World Dirt Racing League (WDRL) main event. The Solon Springs, Wis. native then swapped the lead on several occasions with Chris Simpson during the 40-lap A-Main before guiding his AMSOIL race car to the win ahead of Chris Simpson, Chad Simpson, Justin Fegers, and Eric Pember. The WDRL triumph was the second straight series victory for Smith as he also won the rain-postponed 'Masters' back on August 1 at the Cedar Lake Speedway.  Smith is headed to Rossburg, Ohio this week for the famed "World 100" at the Eldora Speedway. More than 120 of the North America's top dirt late model drivers will battle for the $41,000 payday on September 5-6. Smith finished 15th in his first World 100 A-Main in 2007. |
Rinker Wins Mod-U National Championship
Team AMSOIL power boat driver Terry Rinker marked the Labor Day Weekend with a successful run at the 25th O.P.C. National Championship races in Kankakee, Ill.  Rinker took part in the festivities, which were not a ChampBoat sanctioned race, by competiting in the Modified Unlimited class. Rinker earned the National Championship title driving the AMSOIL sponsored #10 boat to a strong victory. The AMSOIL boat started in the pole position and lead the field for all 15 laps to secure the victory. This National Championship win increases the AMSOIL team’s APBA national high points lead in the Mod-U class with one race remaining. The final race will be held in Florida in mid-October.  AMSOIL team driver, Randy Rinker finished a respectable fifth after suffering a propeller failure mid way through the 15-lap race. The AMSOIL team hopes to carry the momentum of this win to the next ChampBoat Series race in Tempe, Az. on September 27-28. Rinker is leading the F1 ChampBoat series point’s championship. AMSOIL is also the Official Oil of ChampBoat. |
Douglas, Hord Win, Oberg Podiums
If you were a betting man, you might want to start putting some money down on Scott Douglas winning on Sunday's.  The AMSOIL Super Team driver headed to Crandon, Wis. for the BorgWarner Shootout on Labor Day weekend and pushed his Sunday streak to three after winning the Pro 4x4 class race on Sunday morning. Douglas also ran well on Saturday, holding the second place spot for much of the race. The El Cajon, Calif. native was forced to put after a racing incident caused his fiberglass fender to block the trucks cooling system and his line of site. In the Cup race, a bad crash by Johnny Greaves in front of Doulgas forced the AMSOIL Ford F-15o into Greaves, crippling the trucks front end and forcing Douglas out of the race. In Pro 2wd, AMSOIL Super Team driver Mike Oberg showed off his top end speed with three strong races. On Saturday, Oberg started in the back row and found himself in tenth coming into the  first turn. On the third lap, however, Oberg started dialing in the truck and began picking off the field. Within four laps, Oberg was one of the fastest trucks on the track and was looking at a podium finish. A large rock would play the spoiler after it kicked up and damaged the transmission, forcing Oberg to pull off. On Sunday, Oberg would get redemption. Again starting in the back row due to not racing full time in the WSORR, Oberg received perfect bite off the starting line and came through the first turn in fourth. From there, Oberg moved his AMSOIL Chevy into second and battled there for much of the race. With about three laps to go, Oberg started to pull away from the rest of the field and would land on the podium in second. In the Cup race, Oberg ran fourth for most of the race, but another rock pierced the transmission casing and ending the day for the Elk River, Wis. native.  Chad Hord pushed his Pro Lite onto three podium finishes this weekend. On Friday, Hord battled with Jeff Kincaid, finishing second in the Decision at Sundown. On Saturday, Hord used the longer track and motor troubles from Kincaid to his advantage, winning the Crandon World Championship race and bringing another ring to Felch, Mich. On Sunday, Hord started ninth, but was able to push the Boss Plow/AMSOIL truck into another second place finish. Congratulations go out to Dan Vanden Huevel. The Flying Dutchman won his first WSORR point's championship with a pair of strong finishes this weekend. The Dutchman also finished third in the BorgWarner Cup race, which was swept by Pro 2wd's. Douglas, Oberg and Hord will return to action as Championship Off Road Racing moves back to Chula Vista, Calif. on September 13-14. AMSOIL is the Official Oil of CORR. Saturday's race will air live on SPEED. |
