CORR Cancels Primm Event

Championship Off Road Racing (CORR) officials recently decided to cancel the Primm, Nev. race scheduled for October 25-26. Instead, the AMSOIL Dominator Desert Challenge series finale scheduled for December 6-7 in Chula Vista, Calif. will be expanded to a three-day event (December 5-7).

Live NBC and SPEED television coverage will air as scheduled on December 6-7. The October 25-26 NBC and SPEED shows will also air in their scheduled time slots, featuring highlights and previews from the season.

CORR Press Release Regarding Cancellation of the Primm Race:

CHAMPIONSHIP OFF ROAD RACING CANCELS PRIMM, NEVADA RACE AND EXPANDS SERIES FINALE AT CHULA VISTA TO THREE DAYS

NEWPORT BEACH, CA – October 3, 2008 – Championship Off Road Racing CEO Jim Baldwin made the following statement regarding the organization’s decision to cancel its Primm, Nevada race weekend (October 25, 26).

“Championship Off Road Racing has made the difficult decision to cancel the Primm, Nevada race on October 25th and 26th. The current credit crisis has made it very difficult to cover CORR’s costs.”

“CORR is focusing its resources on expanding the ‘Series Finale’ event in Chula Vista, California from two- to three-competition days. This decision enables CORR to maintain the onsite and broadcast production quality our fans expect including two live days of television coverage. It also allows us to protect the integrity of the chase for the Series point championships.”

“The 2008 CORR season has been one of the most exciting ever. The Series has enjoyed a 170 percent increase in track attendance over 2006 and triple digit growth in television ratings. While this decision was difficult given our momentum, it is one that is in the best interest of the sport. We are excited about expanding the Chula Vista event and releasing our 2009 Series schedule within the next two weeks.”

Background on CORR

Championship Off Road Racing™ brings high-action, four-wheel motorsports, including two-wheel-drive and four-wheel-drive trucks to closed-course, off-road arenas. It traces its roots to the Short Course Off Road Drivers Association (SODA), which was born in the early 1970’s and featured races in the Midwest, primarily in Wisconsin and Michigan.

Smith Third at 'Governors Cup'

The past two weekends have meant trips to the Hawkeye State for Team AMSOIL late model driver Brady Smith with his second foray in Iowa being the more successful.

Smith headed to Davenport on October 3-4 for the 'Governors Cup' at the Davenport Speedway. The World Dirt Racing League (WDRL) Series sanctioned the $10,000 to win, two-day show as Smith timed in ninth quickest in qualifying on Friday night and later won his heat race.

Following a second place effort in the dash, Smith rolled his AMSOIL/Big Red Motorsports car off from the outside of the front row in the 60-lap main event on Saturday. The Solon Springs, Wis. native ran amongst the leaders throughout the 'Governors Cup' and wound up a strong third behind winner Jimmy Mars and runner-up Darren Miller.

After winning the 2007 Knoxville Late Model Nationals, Smith was hoping for a repeat win September 25-27 in Knoxville, Iowa. The triple header started on Thursday and Friday night with a pair of $7,000 to win preliminary events. Smith ran 11th on Thursday but won his heat race and finished tenth on Friday.

Smith started on the outside of row six for the $40,000 to win, 100-lap 'Knoxville Nationals' on Saturday night. In front of the SPEED Channel cameras and a huge crowd, the Solon Springs, Wis. native looked to repeat his 2007 win. Unfortunately, he could not find his way back into victory lane and instead settled for a 17th place effort.

Smith has just three events left on his 2008 schedule including his next race October 17-18 at the K-C Raceway in Chillicothe, Ohio for the Dirt Track World Championships and a $50,000 payday.

Cat Lites class.

Team AMSOIL came out on fire in their class race on Sunday. For a brief time, the duo was even running with the more powerful 850's, which race at the same time as the Cat Lites. After gaining the lead on the field a few laps in, Team AMSOIL walked away with the win and the 2008 OSS National Championship.

The OSS will start the 2009 season in Biloxi, Miss. next March. Teague and Whittier will be competing for a second straight World Championship title in Key West on November 2.

Brand Spotlight: AMSOIL

Company Background:

The AMSOIL corporate headquarters, manufacturing plant and chemical and test laboratories boast state-of-the-art equipment and specialists in every facet of lubricant technology. At AMSOIL, unparalleled quality standards are assured. AMSOIL provides a full range of customer and technical services, while 14 distribution centers throughout North America and the world keep pace with the increasing demand for AMSOIL products. AMSOIL has been the First in Synthetics since 1972 and offers a full line of products for everything from two- and four-stroke powersports applications to heavy-duty diesel and automotive applications.

In your opinion, what is the definition of sponsorship?

“Grassroots Racing” has long been our definition of sponsorship.  We live day-to-day with the belief that we can make a difference in helping markets that are not mainstream, or the “Big fish in a little pond” attitude.  We are heavily involved in motorsports such as motocross, ATV racing, snocross, off-road trucks, and so on.  They offer great, direct exposure to millions of racers and fans.

How is your program organized?  Do you have levels of support available for all skill levels of riders?

AMSOIL offers corporate sponsorships on both product and financial levels.  AMSOIL corporately-sponsors about 60 race teams, events and/or series on a yearly basis.

AMSOIL also offers a pair of programs that help both the AMSOIL Dealer network, as well as local and regional race teams.  The first is our Preferred Racer Program, which is offered through Sponsorhouse.com.  This program allows race teams a significant discount on the complete line of AMSOIL products.  The one-year sponsorship also includes a free promotional packet for each race team, with no obligation to purchase our products.

The second program is our Dealer Co-op Program. In the Dealer Co-op Program, AMSOIL splits the cost of product with a sponsoring AMSOIL Dealer.  The program provides free AMSOIL products for race teams and allows our Dealers an affordable option for advertising in their region.  It also allows the AMSOIL brand to penetrate a more diverse range of race teams.

What is most important to you when deciding to sponsor someone?

Corporately, AMSOIL looks at exposure, both on and off the track.  How many times will our logo be on television, in magazines or on the Internet?  Along with finding winning teams, we also look at the character of the individual.  Does that person exemplify the image we are looking for?  Can they articulate the AMSOIL message in a clear and concise manner?  How do they work with other teams, their crew or even other sponsors?

What advice do you have for an up-and-coming rider who is attempting to increase their riding ability and marketability to take it to the next level?

Listen to racers with experience and be willing to work hard.  On the track, practice does make perfect and the top riders and drivers are on top because of their dedication to their trade.  As for marketability, be professional.  Take your education seriously.  Don’t slap together a proposal at the last minute and expect to get the big sponsorship.  Do not, and I repeat, do not send in an e-mail or letter that is written like you are text messaging a friend.  Also, don’t expect to land one big sponsorship to support you.  It could take 10 or 12 companies working together to get you where you need to go.

How has SponsorHouse helped you with your Sponsorship program?

SponsorHouse has been great at getting AMSOIL products into the bikes, cars, boats, etc.  It helps qualify our product to the industry and the race teams that are looking for an exceptional product to help them win at the track.  More than 2,000 racers have been turned on to our products because of our involvement with the SponsorHouse website.
