About the Driver

Well I have been around racing all of my life. I am now the third generation in my family racing. It all started with my grandfather (Dick Tates) who first started racing at Brookland Speedway over 20 years ago. Then my father of coarse (Joe Tates) who was one of the more consistent drivers in the 90's and now me (Channing Cockriell) the third generation racecar driver in the family who loves the sport so much he eats, sleeps and, thinks about racing constantly. Now I know your probably like that’s a little much but you can't give that to someone and you can't take it out of them it's just there. Now I have seen a lot of racing in my life but the one who inspires me most would be Jamie Gulle a true racing hero in my eyes were talking someone who puts a motor together using things lying around the garage comes out and takes a top 5 finish. Not one night of the year either I mean every night of the year. TRUE HERO...... We are currently not racing in 2008 do to the fact that I had a baby boy on March 25, 2008 may I introduce his name Cole Riley Sproule. My goals for the 2009 season are high but when you think positive good will come so we built a brand new car for 2009 it is a 79 malibu with a race engine but by Len at CORNERS QUIKLY. I hope to at least pull of some top 5 finish's this year you never know maybe even some 1st or 2nd place finish's as well. I guess we'll have to see how the season goes. WE are also planning on heading into Wisconsin in I believe September of 2009 for the Badger Nationals so we hope for a good season to pull that off.

Q&A - Competition

How did you get started?

Well I've been around racing my entire life. But when I wanted to go racing I was discouraged from it by my family. you know its to much money, time etc....

List your competitive highlights:

Well the first time i turned laps in a racecar was on a cheaters nite I raced with the mechanics and pulled off a 2nd.

What are you planning for next season?

I am curently building a new car for next season it is a 1979 malibu g-body car. Engine is built by Len at Corners Quikly I wont say the specs but the car is new from ground up. Chassis is going in to get powder coated it all profesional.

What has been your biggest accomplishment?

It would defenetly have to be my first racecar everyone discourage me from racing and i still went ahead built it got it goin but used the wrong heads detinated it cooked a piston. You see it pays to play
