Cyclocross Series, the Bethlehem Cup, is in the books. And, for me at least, the 2009 cyclocross season in finished.

After rain all day Saturday and through the night, the Bethlehem Cup course at Elm Avenue Town Park in Delmar, NY, could have easily been a tougher course than it was. While the water soaked...Click below to read more...

race on the NYCROSS.com Series schedule. The promoters promised a challenging race course, and they delivered. After two days of heavy rain, the course couldn't be anything cut challenging. USA Cycling says September 1. If it didn't start then, it definitely started today. At 6:30 am today when I left for the Bunt Park Cyclocross race, it was 49 degrees and raining. At 9:00 am, race time, at Blunt Park in Springfield, MA, it was still pretty close...click below to read more.

With the temperature in the 90's and high humidity, the Darkhoese 40 was a tough race to complete. Even with the "double secret rest stop" where you could stop for an ice cold Pabst Blue Ribbon or replace that salt you sweated out with a frozen margurita.

The Darkhorse 40 was an awesome race. They had a huge turnout, 385 pre-registered riders, and on the same weekend as US Cup National race just under two hours away.

The race is held at the Stewart State Forest in New Windsor NY. This years 40 saw some changes over previous years. The course is usually set up on a 20 mile loop. But with all the race rain we have had this summer, the organizers decided to fine the best trails to use and map out a 10 mile loop. This actually made the race a little harder. The race course has alot of great singletrack trails, rolling terrain, but aldo has several short veru steep power climbs. Steep climbs that were done four times instead of two. They guy really did put together a great course. They always do. Over the years, I don't think I've ever raced the same course twice at Stewart.

I had a great time with the race, although, I did not finish. After raceing Friday at Windham, and then going to the Darkhorse 40, I was tired. I pulled out of the race after 30 miles. I just didn't have the legs for one more 10 mile lap. I'm looking forward to next year's race. After racing it this first time, it is now a race that I will always try to have on my schedule.
