Combat Classic Tournament Results: November 8, 2008
Master and competitors from the East Coast to the Midwest
converged on Lebanon, MO for the first annual Combat
Classic Tournament. The youngest and the most senior of
citizens gave their support of a very exciting competition.
There was a large division of martial artists representing
Japanese, Chinese, American, Okinawan, and Korean styles.
Wind Shadow Competition Team had an impressive day on
the mat scoring early wins to ensure its place in the Grand
Championships across five divisions! Wind Shadow nearly
swept the entire weapons division for men and women black
belts over age 18 by taking 1st and 3rd places. Hitting the mat
with fast moves in choreographed fighting, Joye generated
many cheers as she body slammed Clay during the final part
of their routine. Placing 2nd, this earned another berth in the
finals. Toward the end of the day, the finals fell away when
Team Captain Clay Worley suffered a shoulder dislocation in
a sparring blitz. Although his opponent was attempting a
hasty retreat out of the ring, the resulting crash re-injured a
rotator cuff surgically stabilized in late 1991. Still, Team
Wind Shadow earned six trophies and the coveted Sword of
Honor for the best representation of overall sportsmanship of
any school that day. Proud of his second and third generation
students, Grand Master Yoo Jin Kim returned to Atlanta with
smiles on Sunday. Click here to check out the article that
advertised the tournament!

The 2008 ATA World Championships brought a close to a very successful tournament year for me with three top 5 finishes. The competition was world class in skill and, most of all, character. It was a fantastic experience as we pushed each other to excel and built long lasting friendships along the way.
