Well, I don’t know how to write a story and convey the highlight of my birthday weekend, because the whole weekend was a non-stop highlight.
It began Friday when I picked up my friend and video photographer Bill Hollywood ½ hour ahead of schedule. We had the “Short Bus” loaded down and headed for Lakeland to meet up with Ray and Ali of Red Trail Racing. Ray invited me to perform a freeride show for the kids at YMCA on Saturday. Friday afternoon we arrived at Ray’s Ranch and started riding a variety of bridges and skinnies including one that’s 6 feet high that you huck off to a lander. Ray’s house is in the middle of 40 acres of cow fields. He has 2 quads and we went riding through the fields at night. I found a big dirt hill that we drove over from every which way and then drove to the far end of the field. On the way back to the house a huge 3000 pound black bull came out of the night and started charging me. He stopped 5 feet in front of me, kicked up some dirt and then took off. When my heart started beating again we headed back to the campfire to laugh about the whole thing. Saturday, Sponsorhouse members casey lambert and joey bunch and the Red Trail Racing crew set up at the YMCA for the freeride demo. We were all treated like rock stars and had a great time.
Casey and Joey wanted to hit-up the public skate park in downtown Lakeland so off we went. The park was small but fun and after a little riding and promoting Sponsorhouse I saw a knee high kicker 8 feet from a 4 foot high fence so I bounced out of the park.
After a quick stop to see K.C. at Bent’s Bikes we headed for “Scary Larry’s Lake House.
Larry’s was insane! Everything was big. 22 and 25 foot jumps at the bottom of some very technical bridges and drops. The lines were so addicting, and challenging every time. Just before dark some wild pigs were in the woods across the road. One of them was invited for dinner. There were 30 people at the party, all but 5 of them expected everyone to bring food so the pig was like a gift from God with no argument from Satin. (Lee was there too) To cool off, Larry has a lake jump into a clear water lake, a number of cliff diving spots, and the scariest rope swing in the world. We all partied around the camp fire and ate that hog until there was nothing left. Not even a strip of bacon for breakfast.
The people were great, the weather was perfect, and the fun never stopped. The 3 ½ hour ride home seemed quick and easy because I could not stop replaying the whole time in my head, at times bursting into laughter for no apparent reason. I will be adding several pictures to my profile soon and I will be working on another video that I am sure will be my best one by a long shot.
