Well, the holidays started off with a bang because the whole family went to the Grands in Tulsa. It is the biggest race of the year and it is held in the biggest building I have ever seen. Even bigger than the Silver Dollar building in Reno! All the factory teams were there and I was happy because there were some great racing friends there so I didn't feel too alone. There were tons of motos and I raced Open and class for all three days. The track was cool and almost as long as Napa's. It had an awesome pro section and we all saw some amazing racing.
I raced kids from all over the country and some were super fast. Everybody was really nice, especially my friend Garret's mom and dad. They even helped us get a cruiser home in the Icee trailer. I am excited to race cruiser, next year. Garret and I played in between motos and we could take our minds off all the racing excitement. My friends Will and Wyatt came from Sonoma and Wyatt even won the Race of Champions! I made quarters every day and semi's on Friday. Even though I didn't win, I still had the best time, ever. Thanksgiving, dad and I had dinner at the Redman trailer with the Van Ogle's. Their whole family is so great to me and my parents. Both Kelsey and Lain had really great races all weekend. Maybe not by their standards, but for the rest of us they would have been pretty awesome! On Friday, mom and my sister flew in and surprised us. I was so glad to have them there. My mom is a great coach because of her years as a great soccer player. She's a lot calmer than my dad!
Another great thing about the Grands is the shopping. All the cool bike shops are there and there are lots of sales on gear and parts. There is a place for used bikes and parts and both Mr. Larson and my dad bought cruisers. I think it's cool that all my friends are racing cruiser next year. It is kinda hard to race against 14, 15 and even 25 and 40 year olds at the local track! Anyway, for me and my family and the Cross' and the Larson's and the Nixon's it was an amazing time. We all came to have fun and we all did whether we won or not.
At home I started racing cruiser. The Saturday before the Grands we went to our local track to practice. I wasn't going to race that day and just before sign-ups closed Scott's dad Kelley said I could ride my friend Tyler's cruiser because he wasn't going to race it that day. Man, it was a really cool FMF and Mr. Molles really put some cool stuff on it. I took it out for a try and I LOVED it!!! Dad signed me up for a cruiser membership and I raced. I had a blast and got 2nd behind Ryan who is a 14 Expert! I raced three more cruiser races before the season ended and got two more seconds and a third, although I think our friend Bob and his buddies let me get that third place!
In the mean time I've been practicing and training with my friends Wyatt, Will, Robbie and Ryan. We've been working really hard with Nathan Bonilla. Nathan is Donnie Robinson's great friend and he, Donnie and my friend Jessie Langland all studied and trained with the great "Poppa A". We are little kids and I might be the only one of us who knows about Poppa A but that is because I read all the BMX articles I can. We train really hard till after dark and Nathan is a great coach. Right now we're working on our strength and stamina, but soon it will be more track skills. No matter what and no matter how hard we work, we always have a ton of fun and it's going to help us in the new year.
Today is Christmas and when I saw Santa at Macy's last week, he knew I'd been really good all year and asked me what I wanted for Christmas. He told me if I'd been eating all my vegetables I might get the cruiser I had hoped for. We got a pretty beat up cruiser at the Grands and since it was Santa, I asked for a Redman cruiser. I didn't think I'd get one and I didn't... Heck, the elves built me a totally awesome Intense one! It has all the cool stuff on it and it feels really great to ride. I can't wait to get out onto the track to try it out. So, until next season I hope you all have a safe and happy holidays. See you at the track!
