Some Personal Information About Me:
My name is Josh Girard. I am a military brat, born in the phillipines. I attend frostburg state university just because it is in the mountains. I love the wintertime and I think I am addicted to snowboarding. I don't feel at home, unless I have a board strapped to my feet!
What inspires you to compete?
I just like to see how I compare to my fellow riders. When I compete it lets me know what I already have down, and what I have to work on.
What has been your most embarrassing moment?
Probably during one of the most recent competitions I entered... I entered at the last minute so i diddn't know the course, so..... i winged it. Or tried to at least. I started off pretty good because I was able to put a run together in my head by breifly looking at the course. The end was out of my line of sight, so i figured I would throw something together when i got there. When I approached the last jump, I was out of ideas so i just did the first thing that popped in my head. I tried a backflip, but by that time, i had already been going too slow causing me to faceplant into the snow! Oh well....
Describe your style...
I am a goofy footed rider. I have a very unique style when it comes to riding. I like mixing things up alot, combinig lots of spins and twists and turns. I will very rarely just be cruising in a straight line. I am one of those people that you see trying to do a trick off of everything in their path. Most of my friends tell me that it never gets old watching me ride.
Do you train? What does your schedule look like?
Yes, I think it is very important not to stress yourself out though. If snowboarding ever seems like a chore, then something needs to be changed. I am in college so i have to learn to balance everything. At first it was difficult, but it got better. After classes every morning i head straight to the slopes. I do a few quick warm up runs then I spend most of the day in the terrain park. I try to learn and master at least one new trick a week. If i set a goal and I don't accomplish it, then i get very frustrated with myself. After iI leave the mountain I go to the gym for about an hour then go home for a good nights rest so that i can wake up and do it all over again!
