Background

When did you start racing BMX?

I started locally in Western MA back in the early 80's with my brother. After a few weekends, it became a 10 year commitment racing both regionally and nationally. During my best years I was top 2 in MA and New England and top 20 nationally. In year two, Mr. Saloomey who managed the Factory Columbia BMX team asked if I'd be interested in joining their team. Little known fact, Columbia who is now extinct was one of the first bike companies in the US. We had an incredible team with Rick Saloomey (crazy fast and style), Mike Nathanson (Mr. Professional) Pat McDonald (The wild one!) etc. They were all nationally ranked riders. For me, it was a blast competing nationally against Justin Green (Factory Diamondback), Chase Didget (Factory CW), Shelby James (Factory Profile), etc. However, when high school came around, I dropped racing and picked up football, basketball and baseball. This was definitely one of the best times in my life and I started riding again to recapture some of that excitement!

Any memories that stand out?

War of the Stars in Louisville back in the 80's...amazing track, Orlando Nationals Shelby James on his home track...damn he was quick, Richmond, Virginia’s track...so smooth, free bikes from Columbia...thanks Mr. Saloomey, and the times on the road with my family and friends.

When and why did you start riding again?

Spring of 07. I checked out a race at the Livermore,CA NBL track. I haven't been on a bike in probably 16 years and thought it's time to get back on the frame. My first race got me hooked all over again. I even traveled back East for a race at my old home track with my brother and old friends. Then again, maybe I started up because I was feeling a little old.

What are some of your latest highlights?

Heading back East in 2007 was a big one but traveling to Las Vegas for the 2007 Western Regional Championships was cool too. I ended up #3 for the Western US which is funny considering how long I've been out of the sport.

What do you do when not racing?

I work for Electronic Arts (EA). I'm trying to get one of our studios to develop a BMX game but no dice at the moment. Perhaps the Olympics will change their mind. Other than that, I love to hang out with my wife, baby boy Drew, family and friends.
