Q&A - Personal
What inspires you to compete?
Since I was a kid my family has had me playing sports. My grandfather was an amazing football player. He played at Morehead on a full ride, then had a chance to go to the NFL, but didnt want to put the stress on my grandmother, my mom, and my aunt, and uncle. Back then the NFL wasnt what it is today(1940's) He then went on to coach a local highschool to there only State Championship ever. My uncle was an All-State linemen, and 2 time state champ. He also raced mx back in the day, with my cousin who used to race Supercross, at an amature level. So naturally football was big in my life. I played for 7 years, had a chance to play in college but decided aginst it. I ran track, played baseball, so a big part of my life was competition, and when I graduated I had a big void in my life. I'v riden motorcycles for prob 10 years now, and it was just a natural step to motocross. From my first race I was hooked.
What has been your most embarrassing moment?
Like I mentioned earlier my first race that got me hooked was also my most embarrassing moment, hands down. I had no idea what I was in for, showed up to a local Saturday night race late. I missed the riders meeting, and barley made it to the first practice. This first practice happened to be my first time on this track, bad idea, and not very smart. They say hinesite is 20/20, and this is proof. I didnt know what all this talk about 'arm pump' was, so after about 1/2 lap of practice I knew all to well. No one signed up in the 250 D class, so I felt like I was just buying a trophy so I ran the unlimited C/D class, another bad idea. I made it through the first moto dead last, and realized I was in over my head. The next moto I was killed, but I knew it was a 5 lap race. What I didnt know was after the first rider makes 5 laps, the race is over. So the last lap, after being lapped, I made the entire lap alone, and by myself in dead last place. Very embarrassing to ride an entire lap all alone, and very slowly might I add.
Do you train? What does your schedule look like?
7 years of sports gave me alot of advantages over alot of people. I know how to train my body for sertain things, both weight lifting, and running, also cycling. I lift 4 days a week, ride my mountain bike, and run along with alot of stretching. I also ride 2-3 days a week with a good friend, who had been racing the GNCC series for 10+ years. He is a big help, and keeps things interesting.
Why do you like this sport?
Why wouldnt anyone like this sport? Name me one other sport in the world where you have to push yourself to the limit physically, and still clear 100+ foot gaps, and ride as fast as you can through a whoop section thats designed to stop you? Every lap, every turn, every jump is different every time you go round. There is constant change, and the feeling you get when your the first one across the finish line is amazing.
Music?
I LOVE music, its a big part of my life, no matter what im doing. I listen to all kinds, from hip-hop to heavy metal. I really dont think there is any mood, or emotion that a person can feel, that a song cant help express.
