Howdy folks!
Stoked, pumped, ready to roll. I was all of those just two weeks ago, right before the third of seven races for the National Points Series in the UK. I was, until I was informed by my bosses that I`d be going on a classified "business" trip to a classified base in Europe, really looking forward to this race in Leamonting Spa.
Sure, I could get angry, maybe a little bitter and blame the Air Force for interrupting my race schedule and trying to sabotage my goals and dreams, but that would just be immature and unprofessional.
So instead of being angry, I used the time away to read up on a book I just bought called, "Mastering Mountain Bike Skills" by Lee McCormack and Brian Lopes (READ THAT BOOK!) and work out when I wasn`t working on the flight line.
As awesome as it would be, most of us aren`t professional mountain bikers that get paid to ride. Most of us have full-time jobs that sometimes require we miss a race here and there. I think the important thing is to keep a good attitude about it and remember that it`s a privilege to ride and race.
With that, I press on and look forward to my next race in Molfre, Wales! See you guys June 25th!
Humbled, Bob Burnes
