Fort William World Cup DH TrackQ&A - Competition
How did you get started?
I only started competing in DH this year, before that I had competed in a few endurance events but after spectating at some DH events and getting a taste for it after a week riding in the Alps, I decided to give it a try.
List your competitive highlights:
Competing in my first SDA race this year, and riding the Fort William DH Enduro.
What are you planning for next season?
LOTS of training over the winter (strength training, general fitness and skills work on roots and rocks) and the hopefully putting in an improving performance in the SDA and Pearce Cycles races in 2010. It will be my first full season so I will be focusing on purely learning more about the racing and improving my skills next year.
What has been your biggest accomplishment?
Within MTB, it's putting together 2 full race runs in my first event. Outside MTB it has to be joining the Royal Air Force.
Q&A - Personal
What inspires you to compete?
The thrill of competition. I'm a self confessed adrenalin junkie (comes with the job!) and just love pushing myself!
Why do you like this sport?
Because of the challenge it offers... it's man or woman and machine against the hill and the clock. You have to be totally focussed, in-tune with your bike and in the zone before you stand any chance!
On the other hand, when you're not competing it's the most fun you can have with your clothes on, especially riding out with a bunch of mates and just shredding the trails... awesome!
Describe your style...
Relaxed off the bike... baggy clothes, jeans and t-shirts.
On the bike... fired up, and focussed.
Music?
A bit of everything really... except thrash metal!
What do you want to be when you grow up?
Do I have to grow up? I'm lucky enough to be doing my dream job from when I was a kid and it also allows me to pursue my riding!
