Q&A - Personal

What inspires you to compete?

I have been competing on bikes since I started racing BMX at the age of 6. All the time I spend riding and becoming a better rider comes to fruition when I put it all together for a race. Getting together with other riders to test ourselves against the course and each other and go faster and faster is a sastifying experience that can only be had through racing.

Why do you like this sport?

Downhill Mt. Biking has evolved from the original roots of mt. biking and todays modern long travel bikes represent the culmination and advanced level of the sport. My first mt. bike was a fully rigid Scwhinn High Sierra when I was a kid. I have evolved with the sport as it has changed. I really like riding and racing downhill bikes and I love mt. biking and the direction that it has gone. Now I can go faster and fly higher and ride epic downhill race courses or go on long rides on a full suspension trailbike or race a super D, etc. What a great sport Mt. Biking has become!

Describe your style...

My personal style in life is to be relaxed and positive and I think this carries over to my riding style. I tend to have a traditional style based on picking clean lines and saving energy in order to go faster. I try not to ride out of control and I like to go fast without making many mistakes.

Do you like to travel? What's your best (clean) road trip story?

I love to travel and stay inspired from riding new places and meeting new people. So many insane road trips over the years and so many places and people. Everytime I go to a race feels like an epic road trip and some really are. Road trips to Whistler always rule.

Do you train? What does your schedule look like?

I ride all the time, mostly xc near my house. I also ride my downhill bike about three times a week and practice sprint intervals 3 times a week. I also ride my pumptrack and I am constantly working on it to improve and finish it. I also go trailriding on my motocross bike to improve my speed and strength. I am always trying to lose weight and keep it off by riding and eating right and resting properly.
