Close Call

The first race was this last saturday May 3rd.  On Thursday May 1st I decided to go to my dads after work and check my bike out, make sure it started and things like that to make sure it was ready for race day.

I got there and we tried to start it, we must have tried starting it for like a half hour.  It would not even kick over, not to mention when you tried to kick it over, the kick starter seemed to just lock up and you couldn't even kick it.  So we tried push starting it... that didn't work either.  So I was getting a little nervous.

So we took it back in the garage, and started taking it apart, the first thing we did was look at the timing.  My dad wasn't sure if when he put it together if he got the timing right.  Luckily that was the problem and we got it re-timed.  Then we tried kicking it over and it kicked over smoothly and finally started.

So we were putting it back together.  Then I hear my dad say, "uh oh." Thats not good!  So i'm like dad whats up, and turns out one of the bolts that goes into part of the motor broke off.  I guess its some sort of plug bolt.  But you you need it of course.  So i'm like great.

So the next morning, Friday May 2nd, before work I had to scramble to go find a new bolt.  I went to our local dealer to see if they had one, they didn't.... I was like oh no... I really need this bolt, I have a race tomorrow.  I talked to them a bit, and then I went over to one of the for sale bikes, looked at it, and said... This is the bolt i need.  Can I just have this one and then the one you order can go back on this bike?  They talked to the manager and he ok'd it.  So they took the bolt right off the show room floor bike for me.

We got it back together that night and I took it for a rip.  The bike worked fantastic, so I was ready to race.  Saturday morning comes and I'm excited to race, a little nervous about all the stuff that went wrong the last few days before, but everything worked out and I had a great time at the races.  And not to mention I won!  I want to thank RV Sports for working with me on getting the parts I needed ASAP.
