Some Personal Information About Me:

Im Andrew and im 21, living in newcastle in Australia. I go to Newcastle University full time studying sport science - mostly interested in biomechanics. I ride as often as i can because there isnt anything better. A couple of years ago I hadnt even heard about downhill mountain biking and freeriding but then a couple of mates introduced me to it and ive been addicted ever since. I'm really keen to start 4X/Mtnx racing. i like going to the beach during summer and hanging out with my mates. I currently work at Hadley cycles. My short term goal is to race the entire NSW state series and eventually the Australian national series. My long term goal is to race overseas and in the world cup.

Employment / Experience Summary

Working at hadley cycles (they own 3 bike shops in the area). Once i finish my sport science course at university i will hopefully be working somewhere i sport science related to the mountain bike industry.

Describe your style...

i just try to flow as much as possible. i love thundering over the rockiest most rutted out lines but when it comes to a race i try to flow over the smoothest lines i can find.

What inspires you to compete?

Competing in races is pretty much the most fun thing i can think of. its is how i meet new riders to hang out with, and i get to watch the other guys so i can learn how to take any faster risky lines. Competing makes me take more risks to ride faster because people are watching and it gives me a massive adrenaline boost. Since ive started racing ive improved so much and it has just added to the enjoyment i get out of riding.

Why do you like this sport?

mountain biking is just so addictive and there is never a shortage of new thing to try like new tricks on an old jump or old tricks on new jumps. its awesome because you can do it practically anywhere. Psyching up to do a new gap or drop gives the hugest adrenaline boost. I used to play soccer, cricket, squash and a few other sports and then a couple of years ago a few mates introduced me to mountain biking which ive been addicted to ever since.

Do you train? What does your schedule look like?

my training is just doing as much riding as i can with my mates, but i do some jogging and sprints around the streets near my house.

What do you want to be when you grow up?

Being a pro Downhill racer would be awesome, but if that doesn't happen, i'm studying sport science at newcastle university so hopefully once i finish that i will be doing exercise physiology, biomechanics or hopefully developing equipment for a mountain biking company. If i dont make it to being a pro then i'll still hopefully be getting to as many races as possible.

How's Life Treating You?

pretty good, i have a great uni course, a great job, and i ride and hang with my mates in my spare time so yeah its pretty good at the moment.
