Q&A - Motorsports

How did you get started?

I got started racing in karts and other low powered vehicles when I was 10 or 11 years old. Then there was a break until about 13 or 14 when I started working for my Uncle at the local short track as a mechanic. Since then, I have been working and racing in the sport.

List your competitive highlights:

Working for Hixson Motorsports in the 2006 ARCA Re-Max series.

What are you planning for next season?

Hopefully racing in the ARCA Re/Max Series.

What has been your biggest accomplishment?

Working with my manager, sponsor specalist, and all the great staff that have been helping me. People are the most important key to having a successful career and lining myself up with these people has been my biggest accomplishment because it has opened a ton of doors for me.

Q&A - Personal

What has been your most embarrassing moment?

My most embarassing moment had to be back in 2003 when I was about to qualify for my first stockcar race at a track I had never been to. I had a great sponsor and was really really nervous, so before we rolled out I threw up and then I went out and got the pole. It was pretty embarassing but I got the pole, and everyone was going to congratulate me but I had to clean up lol. It was pretty gross and embarassing and everyone in that series never let me down about it for the next two years I raced there. I finished 11th in the race, which was pretty good looking back on it but I was pretty disapointed after sitting on the pole. It was a great experience though as I went on to win 5 races that year and have 4 second place finishes in 16 events. So it was good.

Do you like to travel? What's your best (clean) road trip story?

I enjoy traveling to race events, outside of that, I don't really know. I am kind of a Xenophobe. I am afraid to travel abroad, but I don't hate anyone (the dictionary version of that word is so rough!). My best story was when I traveled to Toledo for my first race with Hixson Motorsports in the ARCA Re/Max series. I took a two day bus ride from Amarillo, TX all the way up to Toledo, OH. It was quite the experience. I met a convict on the run from the law and he told me his story, then we parted ways when I kept going to Toledo, at least he didn't kill me. He gave me his business card after he found out I was in racing. It was quite funny. Then I got to Toledo and it was a great experience working with the team, I learned a lot from everyone there and how things ran in the ARCA series plus we had a great time and it was just a fun atmosphere at all times. It was one of the best times of my life, if I could re-live that weekend, I would, every day.

Do you train? What does your schedule look like?

I train quite a bit on my racing simulator and I work out in the gym; workouts vary. My schedule is pretty set. I work to pay rent since racing doesn't pay the bills (yet). I work, go to school (I am in my final year of college) then go to the gym and then train on my simulator for my next upcoming racing event. Then I go to a youth group or church event that I have planned, and that is pretty much how my day goes. I always make time for God and racing.

How's Life Treating You?

Life is treating me REALLY well. I am in my final year of college, I have a decent (enough) job to pay rent, and I am continuing to move forward in the racing world. Hopefully it all works out, but if it doesn't, I'll still be fine.

Describe your style...

Aggressive. You'll have to see one of my races. I guess the best way to describe my style is: Whatever it takes. :)

Hey man, been a while, LOL. I haven't had the time or inclination for this site in a long time. I, too, kinda took it easy with the racing this year, I was getting kinda burned out on all things racing after last year running for state and track champs. Had a mixed bag this season. Only ran six races...one win, two seconds and (insert drum roll here) three dnf's.

  Hey Nicholas,

How's everything? We're getting ready for next season. I've got a lot of decisions to make in the next few months regarding chassis and engine combinations, sponsorship deals, and etc.
Cash rules everything around me...

  Hey bud,
Things are already taking shape for next season. Looks like the mod ride in OK fell through...wasn't holding my breath for that anyways. Trying to swing a test in AZ with an IMSA team (production Pontiac) for early next spring. We decided to cut back on the IMCA Stock Car somewhat for next season, trying to open up my schedule for testing or tryouts with a mod or late model team. I have talked to several and they're saying maybe...at least they're not saying "no".Thinking about buying a new IMCA Stock Car or mod or sport mod, but we need to sell off some of our stuff before we can do that. Let's see here...we have an IMCA Stock Car, A Monte Carlo hobby stock, Nova hobby stock (sold, I think), a Cruiser Car and a shop full of Chevy stuff, too much crap, LOL. How's things by you?

What's up? Wanted to check in see what you've been up to. We just wrapped up the 2008 Thunder Mountain Speedway and Colorado State IMCA Stock Car Championships this last weekend. WoooHooo! I may have a chance to try out for a dirt modified ride for a couple of big shows in Oklahoma. We'll see how that pans out.
