Born in Connecticut and raised in Hawaii, Megan Abubo showcases a beautiful style honed powerful reef-breaks and deepwater open ocean waves. Growing up in Waikiki, Megan quickly became one of the “beach boys” and without hesitation worked her way to a spot on the elite World Championship Tour ranks in 1998. She had been on the WCT ever since and in 2000 she was runner-up to the world title. She has had many victories both in and out of the water. In October 2004, Megan won the WCT Rip Curl Malibu Pro and shot from the 14th to 9th in the ratings. In 2002, she won the WCT Figueira Pro in Portugal, and in 2001 she won the WCT Roxy pro in Fiji. Throughout her career she has had 5 other WCT victories. Megan’s experience and talent guarantees that she has plenty of years left on the World Tour and she has her eyes set on winning a world title. Like Lisa Andersen, Megan navigates a fresh new path and career for the course of women’s surfing.

Today her works includes being a spokesperson on behalf of Roxy Keep A Breast-an art initiative that raises money for breast cancer research by auctioning art-decorated breast casts of famous artists and athletes. Megan has developed a passion for breastcancer awareness since her sister, a 2-time breast cancer survivor, was first diagnosed at age 27. Megan headed up a Keep A Breast fundraiser in Hawaii in the winter of 2004 at the Roxy Pro.

Growing up and being inspired by Rell Sunn and Megan’s sisters and her mother, Megan has too become a role model who reciprocates kindness and a passion for surfing to the younger generation of girl surfers. She has showed those with a loss of hope how surfing can become an outlet as it did many times for her, and she has taught those that have crossed her path to believe in themselves.

Megan joined a handful of the best women surfers in the world on the first all-female boat trip with Transworld Surf to Indonesia in 2004.Whether Megan is stepping foot in Hollywood – stunt doubling in movies like “Blue Crush”, working on her rigorous fitness program or putting finishing touches on the new house she built in Hawaii, she carries a positive energy with her in all that she does. She is an integral part of every event, bring with her one of the most experience and polished competitive acts as well as a zest for like that makes every trip an experience.
