Q&A - Self Interview
Why BMX?
I have always loved riding bikes. My step-brother Randy used to race motocross and BMX, and one day he was showing me what he could do on a bicycle. My mom took me to the local track in Fort Collins to ride. We saw the sign on when races were being held there, so we went. Life hasn't been the same since!
What do you think the sport of BMX has to offer others?
BMX is a great way for young people to improve coordination, balance, and fitness level. It is a sport that you can improve upon at your own pace, depending on how bad you want to win. It is all in your heart and how bad you want it. BMX is great for individuals that like to challenge themselves and has been a great confidence booster for many of us. Alot of people play team sports and get trophies at the end of year for participating, but with BMX, the trophies are earned whole-heartedly.
Where do you see yourself going in this sport?
The 2012 Olympics hopefully! To move ahead in this sport, you have to earn wins to move up the ranks, and I have gone from novice to expert in one year...which I believe is an accomplishment that I am proud of. The next step is A-Pro.
Who are your role models in BMX?
I have trained with Deak Brown, and I think he is a great role model because he has worked hard to go through the ranks of racing, but he also gives back to the BMX community, he hasn't forgotten where he came from. David Herman is also a great role model with his determination and fierce training. Most everyone in BMX loves Bubba Harris! I have been told that I resemble Bubba because of my size, I often have to model my racing form to be like Bubba.
What else should we know about you besides BMX?
I am officially a sophmore in high school now! Besides BMX, I like waterfowl hunting and fishing. I usually travel to N. Carolina in the summers to see my dad, and I am working on being able to race BMX while I am there.
