Overview

How I got started

I starting skateboarding when I was 13. Now 34 years later I`m still skating and competing in slalom races across the US. I skated for Santa Cruz Skateboards, Independent (still am) Vans shoes, Rector safety gear, Road Rider, Park Rider and OJ Wheels. I started racing again in 2001 after a twenty year break. Slalom racing is big in Europe and continuing to slowly grow again in the US. I ride parks on occasion but prefer to skate long fast slalom courses instead.

Goals for the Future

World Championships are going to be in Hood River Oregon July 17 - 19, 2009, looking forward to another racing season. Not going to as many races but going, which is a good thing.

Bio

What inspires you to compete?

I skate to encourage young and older women to get out and skate. It`s never too late. I`ve enjoyed skating for all these years. I always have other mom`s and girlfriends of skaters encouraging me to keep skating and how they are glad I`m still out there representing. It`s fun and I`ve had many girlfriends and wife`s of skaters get out and start skating. It`s not that fun watching and not doing it.

Why do you compete?

It helps me to set goals with real dates and keeps me in shape. It`s a good excuse to visit with my skate friends at the events and meet new ones as well. New terrain is always a bonus.

What do you want to be when you grow up?

Exactly what I`m doing now. I would like to be doing more art. Painting and drawing for fun. It`s all about having enough time these days. I never thought I`d still be skating and competing that`s for sure. Here`s a tip. Never stop! doing what you love. Even if people tell you your too old or that your a girl.

Do you like to travel? What's your best (clean) road trip story?

Yes, I go to some west coast events. One great one is in Hood River Oregon the other is in Breckenridge Colorado. It`s tough to get use to the altitude. Added to racing, walking up and down the hill it`s a bit tough on the system. Hood River had an amazing 100 cone course on a road that had an amazing view. It was a single lane course and with every turn down the mountain you got a surprise of how the cones were arranged how fast or slow you needed to correct to make sure you didn`t go over the side of the mountain or hit the rock wall that was on the other side. No run outs total commitment and a foot brake that made shoes smoke at the bottom.

Employment / Experience Summary

I've have a small design business called Maximum Impact Design since 1986 doing surf, skate and snow graphics. A year ago I finished the Fullpipe wave art public art project at the Santa Cruz Skate Park with Jimbo Phillips. I have over 20 years of graphic design industry experience creating graphic design for many of the top consumer brands. My strengths are in all things print, which includes in-store graphic displays, packaging, catalogs, product graphics, trade show exhibit signage, and currently I am adding web and mulitmedia design experience to the mix.
