Personal Q&A
What inspires you to compete?
what doesn't? it burns inside of me, and I don't feel right until I am on the track. in life, racing is the only thing I want to do. I love going wheel to wheel and really battling it out with another racer, it excites me to no end. if I am in a really good, tight race, I will still feel the high a few weeks after it's over. like Ayrton Senna said, "Racing, competing, it's in my blood. It's part of me, it's part of my life; I have been doing it all my life and it stands out above everything else."
Why do you like this sport?
I always have. I have always loved automobiles since I was a child. my first word wasn't "mama" or "papa", it was "truck". I have always been drawn to racing, and I can't imagine life without it. as far as what excites me, I'd say the speed. the sensation of going fast, and getting close to death, but living through it is exciting. but I can't nail down one specific reason why I like it, it is just natural to me. why is a shoe called a shoe, you know?
Describe your style...
I'd say it is a mix of drivers. the driver I can identify the most with is Gilles Villeneuve because he always drove 100% every lap, every corner. and I am a bit like Senna because of his intense dedication to the sport. as far as how I prefer the car, I like it the car to turn in very well and blend to a neutral state from apex to exit.
Do you train? What does your schedule look like?
touching my toes, trunk stretches, twisting, locking my hands behind my back (one arm above shoulder, one arm below) and pulling, putting my leg on a surface hip height and stretching that, push ups (2 sets of ten with a rest in between), sit ups (1 set of 15, final set of 10), sometimes butterfly sit ups (one set of 5, I'm to exhausted by this point to do a lot more), then I sit on the end of a bench and, with my helmet on, I raise my head up and down to exercise my neck muscles. around now I start the weight training, I just use 5lb weights for low resistance/high stuff: I lift the weight from shoulder height to above my head as far as my arm will reach w/palms out (3 sets of 15 with rest in between), standing up I let my arms hang with the weights in them then bring them up to chest height w/palms out (3 sets of 15), put my arms straight out beside me and make small circles (3 sets of five one way/five the other way), then I do forearm curls (usually 50 or more, I don't exactly count), while sitting down I bring the arms behind my head and fold and then unfold my arms (it says it works the triceps, 3 sets of 15), trunk raises (3 sets of 10, or 15; I can't remember), and I finish up with some knee bends (I believe 2 sets of 40). sometimes I finish up with lifting myself with only my calf muscles to exercise those (a bunch, I don't count).
Music?
Frank Zappa, Dweezil Zappa, Dream Theater, Rush, Billy Sheehan, Anathallo, Andrew W.K., Jason Becker, Duran Duran, George Harrison, John Lennon, Gnarls Barkley, Jaco Pastorius, The Who, Joe Strummer and The Mescaleros, John Frusciante's solo music, Kaki King, Manchester Orchestra, The Sword, Niacin, Mr. Big, Paul Gilbert, Queen, Radiohead, Stanley Clarke, The Clash, ZZ Top, The Strokes, The Wallflowers, U2, and many others which I'm probably forgetting.
