Jakes Bio

Jake's Bike Biography

For those of you that don’t know, Jacob started racing when he was 4 years old. He started out on a 2001 Honda XR50R. When he started he had training wheels, but he did very well. Jacob started racing at Old Iron Motorcycle Dirt Drags in Three Rivers, Michigan when he was 5 years old. He participated in six races that year. His first time out he was not allowed to race because he had training wheels, they thought that he was not in control of the bike if he had training wheels. He proved them wrong that day though! He ended up beating everyone he went up against during the practice rounds, but was told he had to wait until the following month to compete. So they welcomed him back and he went on to win 3 first place trophies and 2 second place trophies. Jacob made history that year (2004) to be the first, and so far the only, kid to take a point’s trophy for the 00A 50cc 4-stroke class!! In 2005 Jake’s bike got an overhaul to double his horsepower to 4hp. He ran dirt drags again that year without his training wheels. That season ended up being a bit of a challenge for him. A new track was laid down for the drags, more horsepower on his bike and no training wheels ended up spelling disaster for Jake. The track was very loose and during his first race he hit third gear and started to loose control. We knew he was going to go down, but he held on until he crossed the finish lights and WON THE RACE!!!! Thankfully he was not hurt, we thank God for that everyday. He got spooked by the spill so he failed to place at all that day, but went on to win 2 first place and 2 second place trophies that year. He only missed winning the point’s trophy again by 2 points. At the end of the 2005 drag season, we bumped Jacob up to a 13hp KTM Pro Senior. Jacob then started getting into riding motocross. He stared riding on small backyard motocross tracks and was doing great, so we decided to let him ride on a real motocross track. On October 30, 2005 we took Jake to Red Bud in Buchanan Michigan. He did really well for his first time out and he had a blast! So over the winter we took him to Motoplex, an indoor MX track in La Otto Indiana. We went there once or twice a month and rode and Jacob participated in the New Years Eve Manga Racing School at the Motoplex. Jacob and all the other kids spent about 8 hours riding that day. He got pointers on throttle control, balance, burms, whoops, braking and lots of other things. In the summer of 2006 he competed at the dirt drags again and ended up taking home the 50cc 2-stroke champion points trophy! Even though Jacob loves to drag race he is wanting to run motocross more and more. So we are taking him riding at Log Road and Red Bud as often as possible. He even rode the Pro Track at Log Rod in October of 2006! He is a cautious rider and always looks out for the little guys. He doesn’t like to see little kids on slower bikes being passed. He is always concerned if he sees someone go down and get hurt. He has a huge heart and we are so proud of him. But he soon got tired of letting people pass him, so he has become a little more aggressive out there. He is finally comfortable jumping now and he loves being out there. His new bike is a KTM SX65. He was not thrilled about learning to use the clutch, but he caught on right away and we take both bikes out to the tracks so he can get some seat time on the 65 too. Weather permitting he races 2-3 weekends a month. He will also be getting some private lessons from Alex Manga this winter and plans to run some AMA races and at least one national event next year.
