A Day In The Life...

Monday - Friday

  • Non-Practice Day

6AM- Wake Up / Morning run for 30min.

6:30AM- Have breakfast

7AM- Work out on my Bowflex. I alternate days doing upper body workouts one day and lower body / plyometrics exercises the other. I also have this setup where I hook up an old set of handlebars and levers to my Bowflex and visualize myself doing a moto incorporating all the correct movements, funny as it sounds I definitely work up a sweat doing this. When my workout is finished, I practice a few mental exercises.

10AM- Run errands, clean up around the house, do some work on the websites, wash the bike, and/or anything else that needs to get done.

NOON- Eat lunch and get ready for work!

1:45PM- Go to work at FedEx. My job at FedEx as a package handler is extremely physically demanding. The semi trailers that we have to load feel like an oven, since it reaches around 120 degrees in the summer time. On average I'd say I load about 500 boxes an hour. We have to stack the boxes to the ceiling, so I'm commonly lifting boxes over my head. The boxes range in weight from 5lbs. all the way up to 100 plus lbs. I work 2 shifts and each shift is about 4 hours long.

10:30-11:30PM- I get home from work anytime between 10:30 and 11:30, shower, go to bed.

  • Practice Day

In the morning I make sure I get up and get to practice early enough to get at least 2, 30min moto's in, work on some techniques, and be home in time for work. This depends on where I'm practicing at. On days when I'm tight for time, I will usually go practice in the desert and work on several different drills.

Weekends
My weekends are usually up in the air, since I don't have work I don't have to stick to a strict schedule. I go to practice or race. Then I use my much needed free time to hang out with my family and friends.

How I Got Started

While watching a freestyle competition on tv, I got the itch to ride. I thought it would be cool to do FMX. In 2003, I received my first dirt bike for my 15th birthday in November after convincing my mom and dad. It was a 2003 KLX125. I rode it the very next day and I just fell in love with it. After a few crashes I realized that backflips and heel clicker's weren't the route I wanted to go. So I decided I'd just race instead. I entered my first race and didn`t do as good as I thought I would. I entered another race and still didn`t get the results I wanted. I stopped racing for a while and focused on practicing and learning new and different riding techniques.

I finally convinced my dad to buy me a race bike. We traded in the KLX125 for a 2002 RM85. I rode it and right away I started doing jumps and getting a lot better. I entered my 1st race on my 85 and did pretty good, but I wanted to do better. I entered another race at the same track hoping to beat the girls who had beat me last time. I went and I rode awesome. I was one of the two girls on an 85 who were doing most of the jumps.

I am continuing to practice and race. I`m currently racing in the AMA and the WMA. I have come a long way since my first day on a bike. I will only get better.

Some Personal Information About Me:

Since having 2 shoulder surgeries my priorities have changed a lot. I have grown up a lot in the past year. Being forced to answer questions like "What am I going to do now?" "What if I can't ever race again?" and the most common, "Is this even worth it?" Well I'll say it's worth it, for me at least. When you stop riding for a few months, that first ride back is definitely one of the best feelings you can get. So when I couldn't ride my dirt bike, I learned to love going to the gym everyday because that's all I could do. I work at FedEx as a package handler Monday through Friday 8 hours a day, it's about 100 plus degrees in the semi's and I load around 500 packages an hour, it's definitely a workout, yet I LOVE it. I live for hard work, I feel like if I'm not tired or sore, I'm not working hard enough.

Do you train? What does your schedule look like?

I alter my schedule/routine based on the season, where I feel I`m lacking, possible injury, and finances. I ride and race as much as possible. When I practice on the track I focus both on my weaknesses and strengths. I go to the gym as much as possible. My workout routine consists of cardio, weight, and plyometric training. I target the muscles used most in motocross, I also do sport specific exercises. I also eat healthy and take my vitamins. I am working intently to excel in all the aspects of this sport. I lots of mental training exercises as well. I feel my training program gives me the edge on my competition.

Why do you compete?

I compete and ride for several different reasons. My heroes inspire me to always try my best and never give up. I hope that one day I can be the quality person that my heroes are. I ride because it is the one thing that I can always count on to bring me joy. I ride because of the feeling I get when I`m on the bike, the feeling you get after you accomplish something and you know that all your hard work has paid off. I ride because I get to travel across the country. I ride because I learn many valuable life lessons through motocross, this includes never giving up. I ride because of the camaraderie, I have met life long friends and many amazing people through motocross. I ride because it is the one thing that challenges me the most. The challenges and obstacles I meet in motocross work as hard against me as I do to overcome them. I always strive to be the best and in motocross, that is the constant struggle. I ride because I love it!

What do you want to be when you grow up?

My current plan is to turn Pro in the WMA in August and finish out the National season as a WMA Pro. Then I plan to do something I never thought I'd want, go to college. I plan to pursue a career in Physical Therapy. I have always been passionate about it and I feel I can definitely relate. Along with Physical Therapy, I plan to study business/marketing and journalism. I know that I can be a good racer, but I think my natural talents are with marketing and health care. I feel that my place is better suited behind the scenes helping to grow the sport rather than out there on the track. Ultimately, my goal and wish is to help promote and expand women`s motocross to a widely recognized and respected sport. I love this sport and I want to give back to it as much as I can and help as many people as I can along the way.

Rather than just helping myself, I also have a dream of starting a women's motocross team. I would like to be able to pick out a few girls I see potential in and give them all the tools, knowledge, and support needed to achieve their goals, whatever they may be.
