More Information
The 2009 Season
2008 was both frustrating and even more fun than I anticipated. While I didn't get the results I wanted, it was a great learning experience, and I managed to graduate from the novice ranks. I will be able to run the SV650 with it's class instead of fighting with the GSXR I never managed to make peace with. The SV simply fits better somehow, and I have not had anywhere near the kind of technical challenges with it as with the GSXR.
I will have another local sponsor this coming season, namely myself. Because I work in the commercial construction industry, work is pretty tough to find these days, so I am starting my own company to take advantage of the inevitable upturn. How soon things take off again is anybody's guess, but Chipman and Martin is now a sponsor for my racing effort.
Q&A - Personal
Some Personal Information About Me:
The world is always an interesting and exciting place to be. The economy is terrible in 2009, so I'm starting a company and hoping to race a bit sometime during the season anyway. Learning never stops. If it did, it wouldn't be worth getting up in the morning. Racing is always a new challenge and a new learning experience. Starting a company is the same. It's the same urge which drives both.
What inspires you to compete?
The red mist is always there. It has always been there. Competition brings out the most intense concentration I can muster. When it is really thick and furious, time slows and I can see all kinds of things around me in great detail. Split seconds seem to be plenty of time for calculating and reacting.
Why do you like this sport?
There is something elemental about a motorcycle. The engine propels it forward with very little getting in the way. The rider is involved in the entire dynamic of the machine. It relies on the rider to remain upright. A car allows momentary attention lapses, but a motorcycle does not. It is a concentration rush, not an adrenaline rush as so many seem to assume.
What do you want to be when you grow up?
I will let you know if I ever get there.
What has been your most embarrassing moment?
It may not be my worst moment off a bike, but since this is about motorcycles and racing, it has to be about a motorcycle mishap. I came up to a stop light next to a medium sized sedan. I noticed several very attractive young women in the car, and forgot to put my feet down. You can guess what happened next. They were not impressed. They usually aren't, but this time, they were especially unimpressed.
