Q&A - Personal with Joe Fortini

What inspires you to compete?

My dad, I see all the effort he puts forth to get us to and from the races. He makes sure we have all the equipment we need to win, the best gear, the best bikes, and he gives us a chance to win every weekend. Yet with the economy so bad he needs help that why I have a job to help him as much as I can, and thats also why we need help from our sponsors. This isn't considered a team sport, but we can't do it alone. We appreciate all the support.

Why do you like this sport?

It's my life. This sport consumes me, I love every aspect of it. Every single person at every single race is just amazing. The atmosphere, the pure racing environment is just amazing. I cant go a week without riding. The feeling you get soaring through the air and around those corners is just indescribable I feel like nothing can touch me.

Do you train? What does your schedule look like?

I train as often as I can. I try to be in the best possible shape I can be. I do a lot of cardio for endurance, mountainbiking, running, as well as I ride our stationary Life Cycle for an hour a day while watching the past races. I refuse to eat any kind of junk food, or fast food. The night before the race I eat fish and sometimes chicken or pasta.

Music?

I love music, it gets your heart pumping. I always listen to music before the race, I remember before the main event at the Marshfield Fair Supercross I was so nervous. I ended up getting ready in the back of my camper listening to The Softest Thing I've Ever Heard from A Day To Remember. It calmed me down and prepared me for the race.

Some Personal Information About Me:

I'm 17 and a senior in high school. I work the cash office at a Super Stop and Shop. I ride and train as much as I possibly can and put so much effort into racing, and I will not back down. I try to promote this sport in every way I can and all the support I receive will be greatly appreciated.

Q&A - Competition with Joe Fortini

How did you get started?

My dad has always raced, but when I was born he took 8 years off. Ever since I was young I watched the supercross season on ESPN back when Jeremy McGrath was big and all the motocross videos my dad had. I was always itching to race and when my dad went back to it my brother and I had the chance.

List your competitive highlights:

In 2006, my second full year racing I won the NESC 85C Fall Class and was promoted to the 85B class with three races left and made my way into 10th in the B class. Yet the best day of my life, the one I'm the most proud of is August 20th, 2008. It was the Marshfield Fair Supercross, nothing like the Southwick terrain I'm used to racing. I was incredibly nervous but I managed to qualify 4th in the 125B and 6th in the Open B, and I rode my heart out but those supercross whoops is what got me in the end and I ended up 8th in the 125 Main and 9th in the Open Main. That day is still what I consider my greatest accomplishment.

What are you planning for next season?

I absolutely hate to not do well. It kills me, I truly am my toughest critic. Even if I finish well but I dont believe I raced well I'll be mad, and that anger will fuel me during that week of practice and all the way til that next race. My plan for the 2009 season is to be a top amateur and hopefully make expert. I want to win a championship and be consistantly a top guy week in and week out, and have that oppurtunity to win. I've worked so hard and am continuing to do so, all the support I greatly appreciate and I will proudly make my presence in your merchandise at each race.

What has been your biggest accomplishment?

The 2008 Marshfield Fair Supercross
