Honda-mounted Nick De George (656, right) used a perfect 1-1 tally to top the 250cc Beginner class at Los Angeles County Raceway during the Kal Gard Lubricants-sponsored round of the California Racing Club's Hot Summer Nights Motocross Series.
Ryan Hernandez kicked things off with the opening-moto holeshot, ahead of De George, Mike Bennett and Thomas Spalliero. Hernandez's reign lasted for a little more than two laps before a bobble dropped him back to an eventual fifth-place finish. De George inherited the top spot and went the distance for the win. Bennett held down second place for the first couple of circuits before a bobble allowed both Spalliero and Jasun Spriggs to slip past. Bennett came back strong in the closing stages to reclaim the runner-up position, over Spalliero and Spriggs.
De George put his Riders' Choice Performance/P&J Electrical-backed CR250F into the point position at the drop of the gate in moto two and ran out front until Bennett pushed him back to second place on lap three. De George found himself out front again a couple of laps later when Bennett went down. De George ended up going 1-1 for the victory. Spalliero fought back from a bad start to finish second and collect the second-place trophy on his 3-2 effort. Bennett went 2-4 to edge out the 3-4 score of Spriggs for third overall.
Cody Biggs (218, left) and his Zeal Racing-sponsored Honda were untouchable in the opening 250 Intermediate contest. Jason McIlroy finished in second place, just out of the grasp of Lee Saul Jr. and Derin Davis.
McIlroy led the charge in moto two, followed by Saul and Biggs. It took Biggs a lap to find a way around Saul and then just one more to pass McIlroy for the top spot, where he would stay until the checkers waved. Saul finished in third, behind McIlroy, with fourth going to Davis.
Dallas Coulter made it look easy in the Senior Amateur class, as he ran away with both moto wins aboard his Gaerne/Simi Cycles/Pro Taper-sponsored Yamaha. Stuart Wilken had no problem finishing in second place in both outings, ahead of Roy Krull (3-3), Lucky Feinstein (4-4) and Greg McConnell (5-5).
Art Dart (247Z, right) was equally impressive in the Super Senior Amateur ranks, as the Axo/Jardine/Dunlop-backed Honda rider showed everyone the back side of his jersey throughout both motos. Blake Fair kept Dart in sight en route to a pair of runner-up finishes. Gary Doll (4-3) rounded out the top three finishers, ahead of Clayton Loonsfoot (3-5) and Dane Evins (5-4).
