How I got started
I have grown up in a surfing family, thank god, so since the get go it was in my blood to love board sports. In the 70's my grandparents were the owners of Rick Surfboards after Rick Stoner sold the company to them. During that time famous shapers such as Phil Becker worked in the shop for my grandparents.
By the time I started surfing I did practically every board sport I could before that; Snowboarding, wakeboarding, skimboarding... I had always watched my brothers go out and surf and we would surf behind a ski boat in Northern California when the waves were small in the summer. When I started surfing in 5th grade, my Dad had a shoulder problem and could no longer surf. My brothers were in thier teenage " I'm too cool for everyone stage" as well. So I basically taught myself by stealing my older brother's board and paddling out on my own on a 7'6" Becker board.
I've been hooked ever since.
Goals for the Future
Next season I`m planning on just becoming a better surfer in general. I`m hoping to become more involved with NSSA and other surfing oraganizations that will help me to improve how I surf. Besides that, I just want to have fun, surf, and meet some new people, and travel to find surf spots that have never been ridden before.
Another thing that has been interesting me is sharing the gospel with surfers that I meet. Its not uncommon that you will strike up a conversation with some random person while you are in the water... maybe I can show them how the Lord has helped to change me from my old ways and can do the same for them.
