CORNER, AL
Round six of the Alabama State Championship Series moved to Corner, Alabama, and the house was packed! Having a lot of giveaways and Kawasaki contingency definitely brought in the crowd. The racing all day was top-notch. Each class had some great battles among riders from all over the Southeast.
The 250cc/Open A class featured a lot of talented riders. The first moto started off with Earl May pulling the holeshot, with local boy Jonathan Dove and Brett Johnson right on him. Dove worked his way around May and began to set a blistering pace. Johnson followed May for about two laps before getting passed by Blair Miller. Brett Herring came through the field and got by Johnson at the end. Dove scored the moto win, with Miller second and May rounding out third.
The second moto wasn’t much different. Dove got into the lead early and put in some hard laps. May held off Miller for the entire race to take second overall. Jonathan West took the fourth spot. Aaron Saxton pulled out a solid second moto, finishing fifth for sixth overall. Brett Herring and Darryl Heisler had an awesome battle all the way to the end, with Heisler getting the nod for seventh spot in the moto. Overall, Dove swept the field, with May (3-2) taking second overall and Miller (2-3) taking third.
The Supermini class had a full gate, including some top names from Alabama and surrounding states. Gannon Audette (533) smoked the field in the first moto, tripling the step-on/step-off on his KX100. Clay Jackson and Keenan “Slick” Sanders battled all the way for second, with Sanders pulling it off. They were followed up by Chase Glasscox and Joe Love.
In the second moto, Audette once again showed some amazing speed. Jackson and Sanders once again battled the whole moto. Jackson held off Sanders for second and second overall, with Sanders third. Glasscox put in a solid fourth-place ride, and Taylor Parsons came in fifth.
The Over 40 contest was one to watch, as May, Wallace Fincher and Heisler battled for the Kawasaki contingency bucks. May went an impressive 1-1, with Fincher going 2-2 and Heisler going 3-3. Marty Williams and Chris Long Sr. battled for fourth overall, with Williams going 4-5 and Long going 7-4.
