Q&A - Competition
How did you get started?
I got my first dirtbike when i was 9, a Honda XR 80, I rode trails and at my house till i was 16. When I was 13 for my birthday I got a Yamaha TT-R 225. After 2 years of that I got my first 2 stroke a Kawasaki KX 125, I blew that bike up and I got my Honda Cr 250. Then the racing got started. I got started by going to my friends track with my Kx 125 and I liked it alot. Then I saw one of his races and at that point I was hooked, I got a 250F in the Spring of 07 and I've been racing ever since.
List your competitive highlights:
My competitve highlights would be my first place finish at Southwoods on August 3rd 2008, also my first Arenacross ever in 2007 I came first place in the heat race and ended up with a 3rd in the main race. I also got a 3rd overall in 125c at Diamondback in the spring of 2008.
What are you planning for next season?
Next season I'm gonna start traveling more for motocross. I hope to go to as many area qualifyers as possible for the loretta lynns and I hope to make it. I am also planning to race every Sunday and just get my name out there. I'm hoping to qualify for the loretta lynns and make it far as possible through their.
What has been your biggest accomplishment?
My biggest accomplishment would probably be my first place finish at Southwoods.
Q&A - Personal
Some Personal Information About Me:
I'm an honor roll student at Red Hook High School. I try my best in school like I do in motocross. I have played just about every sport and I love motocross. It's something that I can put in my own style and do what I like to do. I also like to stay active and go to the gym if I'm not able to ride. I play some basketball with friends and I like to hunt and fish.
What inspires you to compete?
I went to a Claverack race and saw my friend doing extremely well, and since then i was hooked. I knew that if I practiced and tried hard enough I would be able to do it. The adrenaline rush you get at the line is amazing nothing compares to it when your at the line with 40 people waiting for the gate to drop. Also no matter the circumstances I try my best in a race even if I fall or stall a start. I never give up in a race because anything could happen people in front of you could make mistakes and you can win or things may not go your way during the race, so it stays interesting because your not quite sure whats going to happen. No sport compares to motocross and its something I love to do.
Do you train? What does your schedule look like?
I train 5 days a week. I ride for a minimum of 2 hours a day either at my house or a person's track. I practice as much as possible, corners, jumps, whoops, anything and I practice it. I take practice as seriously as I do races because if you don't ride at 100% each time how do you expect to ride your best on Sunday, thats why I ride as hard as I can all the time. I go into the gym and lift weights on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Its not enough to just ride you have to give that extra work that some people are not willing to put towards it. I also do a "play ride" on Saturdays 30 minutes on each of my bikes. Just to keep me on the bike I practice starts on Saturdays during my play rides and just have fun with it. I race every Sunday that their is a race, from March 30th untill the last race of the year which is usually about the end of October.
Describe your style...
I wouldn't think I have my own style. I watch what the pro's do and see what they are doing in the corners and stuff. Then i translate that into my own riding, if anything I would say I ride in my limit like Kevin Windham, I like to stay in control I try not to outride my limits because that leads to injuries.
What do you want to be when you grow up?
I definately want to become a pro motocross rider. I'm going to take motocross as far as I can go with it. I am definately going to attend college for a business degree so I have something to fall back on.
