My SportsI Do: Cross Country, Dirt Track, Ice Racing, Motocross, Off-Road, Big Mtn., FreerideI Compete: Off-RoadI Like: Climbing, Golf, Big Mtn., Tennis, Ultimate Fighting, Freeride Q&A - Personal
Describe your style...
My style is to ride smart, then fast. If you don't finish a race how can you ever win? I like to make good decisions when out on the track. I may not seem like the fastest person out on the track, but when I finish in front of you it will all make sense. I try to ride smooth and consistent.
What inspires you to compete?
I love to see the up and coming riders make their mistakes, then HOPEFULLY learn from them and progress into better riders. No one ever wants to see any rider get injured, so I do what I can to help improve their abilities while making them think outside of the box when racing.
What has been your most embarrassing moment?
I had gained what I thought was going to be a great relationship with a new sponsor. They offered a decent salary, new bikes, product development, full practice time, etc. I moved to Phoenix, raced their innovative and custom race quads, and helped to promote the business expansion at a largely attended race just before the grand opening.
Unfortunately, this sponsor decided to race in the Pro class as well to furhter promote the business and during the race he crashed in front of the grand stands and got into a fist-fight with another rider. That's not my style at all and the relationship with that sponsor pretty much ended at that very moment.
It's amazing how we are asked to represent our sponsors in the best possible light, then to have one of your own sponsors pull a stunt like that. Just crazy.
Why do you like this sport?
I've met more great friends through this sport! I grew up riding dirtbikes with my family. We are all very close and we would go riding just about every weekend, plus any chance I got after school. I switched from dirtbikes to quads because I went off to college where it snows and I couldn't ride year-round on the dirtbike. I got my first quad...a Honda 250X. That thing was too much fun!
Quads vs. dirtbikes started out like skiers vs. snowboarders. I started the quad racing scene when we were still on the same raceday as the dirtbikes and the bad attitudes, everyone out for themselves mentality, and father's screaming at their kids to go faster was a crappy thing to be a part of. Not all were like that, but it was evident at every race.
Quad racing seems to have a different approach. It's more of a family-oriented sport and fellow racers will almost always pull a part off their own race quad to help you keep going. I enjoy the friendly environment.
Some Personal Information About Me:
I come from a very athletic family. Since age 5, I wrestled, rode dirtbikes, played baseball through high school and beyond. Division 1 Men's Volleyball in college, then raced professionally for years. I love to compete and enjoy being outdoors more than anything! My favorite things to doare go on a camping trip or any road trip to a race.
