The story of Blake "The Bullet" Pilgrim

I have wanted to race since I was 6 years old after watching a TV show about BMX racing.  I was playing football, baseball, soccer and basketball at the time and my parents said maybe next year when things slow down a bit, well they didn't because I loved them all so much.

Well this year I decided it was time to give it a try.  I asked my mom and dad after basketball season was over and they said YES!  I couldn't believe it.

So my dad did some looking around and found a track and then took a bunch of parts off my Tony Hawk bike because he said it couldn't have pegs and stuff on it.  He said we will give it two weeks and see how I liked it.  Well I found a new love, and the bond between BMX racing and me was born.  After my mom and dad saw that I really liked it and showed great promise in it they bought me a used Redline Proline race bike, man was that thing light compared to my Tony Hawk.

I went every Monday and Wednesday to practice and was getting better.  The older boys there were so helpful and always helped me out when I crashed or if I had any questions.

Then my dad learned about some clinics on Thursday nights so he started taking me to them.  David Maclaskey was my "Coach" and he made it fun.  He taught me how to gate, take corners pump on the rythim section.  He helped me so much that I started winning at a rapid pace.  My mom and dad said when I turned Intermediate that they would buy me a new race bike.  Well after 7 wins (4 in a row) they bought me a new Red Intense Factory Jr XL race bike.  I was so excited!

The next weekend while racing at Metroplex BMX I scored my 8th win and was called on the track.  I got a really cool certificate for turning Intermediate!  Then on Saturday nights Race for Life I got 2nd place while racing with 9 year old Intermediates!

Needless to say I'm on cloud nine right now and loving BMX racing.  My goal is to race Pro when I get old enough that they accept me.
