"Q&A" - Up close & personal

Why do you like this sport?

"What I love most about drag racing is that it is a family affair. I can't tell you how many families compete together. It is really great to go to the track and be there all weekend long with the ones you really love spending time with. I always look forward to spending time with my dad and hearing his former racing stories! I guess the old adage is true, 'a family that races together, stays together'."

What do you want to be when you grow up?

"My goal, of course, is to race professionally. I definately know what it takes to be successful in this sport. I also think that my personality sets me apart from any other racer. What I mean is that, I have one! No really, I look up to every one of those who are fortunate enough to drag race for a living, but you never see one who is celebrity status. That's where I come in. I would really enjoy promoting my sponsors and going to events and doing commercials, whatever! I love to make people happy and work is what I know how to do. If I could make a living racing, I would do whatever it takes to make it. I would also love to one day have a clothing/race apparel line."

Employment / Experience Summary

"I actually have a degree in Interior Design! Yes, sounds crazy, but true. My clients are caught of guard quite often after learning about how I spend my weekends! I love being creative. I also dabble in graphic/logo design and fashion design. I am also the vice president of Miles Performance Motorsports."

Describe your style...

"My style is all my own. I am a little preppy, a little punk rock, but always look good. I wear what I like."

"Q&A" with Ashley Miles

How did you get started?

"Well, I have been around hot rods and show cars all of my life. When I was a little girl, my dad would take me to the Mile High Nationals [an NHRA professional event] every year. Just witnessing the incredible power plants behind those drag cars was enough to instill a fire inside me for racing. When I turned 16, I raced in my first event only two months from receiving my driver's license. I competed in a high school drags competition, racing my father's 1966 AC Cobra replica show car. I have admit, I did really well! From there I began competing every Friday night in the Street E.T. category, then advancing on to the Super Pro E.T. and finally competing in the NHRA sanctioned Super Street racing category."

(3) time Division Finals Team Champion, held top (10) season finishes for (7) consecutive years, (4) time recipient of the "Coors Light Perfect Light" pin for perfect reaction time

What are you planning for next season?

"Our season just began in April. I began racing a new car this year. It is a 1996 Pontiac Firebird T/A with a Merlin 540 power plant. This car has been fun to run so far. I have had to get an NHRA license to run because it will run in the 9.99 seconds and faster category. We have been working out the kinks so far, and everything is looking up. I hope to be able to be a contender with the new vehicle. There is always a learning curve involved when you change cars or move up in class. This year I will be running in the Super Pro and Super Street classes. I intend to retain my top ten season finish record and also to compete in a few national events this year."
