Q&A - Personal

Why do you like this sport?

It's fun, scary, rewarding, punishing, exhilirating, demanding and unpredictable all at the same time. I've also made a lot of friends along the way. Plus, you usually have to go to the mountains to participate in it!

Describe your style...

I TRY to be smooth over fast, but I still try to be fast all the same. I'm also old-school in the fact that I have a 26t granny-gear that I "pedal" with when "climbing"...I hate walking with a bike when I don't have to. I have a few tricks up my sleeve as well!

Do you train? What does your schedule look like?

Nothing regimented aside from my 20+ miles a day commuting to and from work, riding in the dirt when I'm not working and trailwork over fall/winter/spring. That usually leaves just enough time for eating and sleeping.

Do you like to travel? What's your best (clean) road trip story?

I'm in the wrong sport if I don't like to! I don't nearly travel as much as I'd like, though - who does? The last road-trip I was on, we went to Tamarack for a couple of days. I nearly plowed into a cow standing ON the trail in a berm just after a table. We both looked at each other for a few seconds and the cow finally lumbered away. I would have gotten owned if I didn't have good brakes!

What inspires you to compete?

Just being ABLE to do so is inspiration alone. I've been RIDING for a while, but never got around to racing. My riding buddies have both persuaded and inspired me the most for sure. I am representing them as much as I am myself, the team and my sponsors. Oh, yeah...it's a ton of fun, too!

Re-setting my goals for '08...again!!!

I had planned on racing Expert DH this upcoming season, but I may not have a worthy rig by the start.  I do have a great 5-6" travel bike that can at least hold up on Sport courses and/or Dual Slalom tracks.  With that in mind, I'm going to kick off the '08 season in Sport class until they force me up to Expert.  By that time, I should have a rig more capable of such courses.  I'm not too concerned...I'm going to have fun no matter what - that's the MAIN focus for my upcoming season.

Looking forward to rippin' it up with everybody at Port Angeles, Mt. Hood and maybe even Spokane!

Ready for '08!!!

One (1) dh race in my career so far and I can't complain about the result.  We'll see how it goes next season once I get a dh rig as opposed to a freeride/all-mtn one...especially considering that rig is toast.  In the meantime, I've been rig-surfing between a couple bros (thanks a ton Scotty & Ted!) and enjoying the rides.

At present, I'm looking at racing the Hood Series and, if it takes place, the Fluidride Cup - basically anything within reasonable distance of Puget Sound.  Looking forward to seeing  those of you that I know and meeting the rest of you out there somewhere.

BRAP!!!

Feeling the need for more speed.

Now that I've finally gotten a DH race under my belt, I'm realizing what it's all about - speed.  Lots of it, to be exact.  I like it to the point where I'm planning on doing the entire Mt. Hood series and Fluidride Cup in '08.  Hopefully I'll have a full-on rig ready by that time.

If all else fails, I can race dual-slalom as they will also run those this season and I just picked up a bike that would hold up well in that category.  I need to at least work on getting decent at that discipline either way - seems like it could be fun.

In the meantime, I'm going to ride as much as I can barring work and trail conditions.  You should do the same!

LET'S RIDE!!!

It you're in the Seattle area and want to hook up, leave me a message and hopefully we'll have a rip.  Otherwise, look for me out at the races in '08!!!

By the way...
