Irwindale was Sick!!!!
The whole experience was sick at Irwindale. Everyone we met was helpful and safety was their first concern. This was nice for me because I've never drive on asphalt before. They were concerned because not only have I never been on asphalt, but I currently race sprint cars which is a much more aggressive style of racing. Asphalt is more about patience & smoothness. You can’t drive an Asphalt car with a aggressive driving style of a sprint car driver. Come to find out the last 3 sprint car driver ended up in the wall at Irwindale. Their other concern was I just turned 16 and didn’t even have my licenses yet. I also had only driven a stick once in my life for about 30 min.
Had no problems with the stick shift on the first car they put me in, but in the second car they put me I had trouble pushing in the clutch in all the way. I started it in 3rd gear. They were nice about it though. LOL Make a long story short. My whole crew was GREAT!!!! I ended up with them taking off the revliminator (spelling??) , which I guess they don’t do often. There were two other racers their that were actually running for point at Irwindale one of them was top 3 with the other being top 10 in points. I GOT FAST TIME FOR THE DAY!!!!! This was dream come true for me to drive a Asphalt car!!! I would love to do it again! I can’t thank the Crew at Irwindale enough they were very encouraging. It was a day I will never forget.
